Knife for the outdoors

Get the Busse combat knife if you plan on doing some combat, definatly. Should have mentioned that. :D
No burn intended, I hope to get my hands on some INFI some day soon.
I have seen some good deals on game wardens in the past.

No Burn taken,

I only used the word combat as in the name Busse Combat Knife Co. But I guess your words fit, as I am sitting here in Afghanistan as I type this. My Busse BATAC as been on quite a few missions and has served me well, everything from opening letters, MRE's to busting open ammo crates, that's just the daily stuff, so I guess as I'm doing combat, I do have the right knife. One thing that you said in your post about Ranger knives is for sure, Justin the owner, is an AWESOME guy to deal with, not to mention he's an US Army RANGER. Another nice knife is the Swamp-Rat Howling Rat LM. I have one on my SERE belt that a very special knife forums member gave me. It is SR101 and holds a great edge. I think they run around $175.00.

Kabul for the most part, but I move about quite a bit. I have been all over Afghanistan.

Tell me about it, I've been to BAF, and Sal Several times and I hate traveling in this crap-hole of a country!!!

-I'm thinking a 4 to 6 inch blade and a fixed knife.

-I spend most of my time in the Everglades, Okefenokee Swamp, and Blue Ridge Mountains.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

For the price, the Blackjack Grunt is a very good blade with a lot of belly and a very well done convex edge. Given your area you plan to use it, the AUS8 steel is more than adequate. The only upgrade I would recommend is a good Kydex sheath...and for the price of the knife, that should leave some funds left over for one.

The spyderco would be hard to beat. The dayhiker is about $150.

I would take a Ranger RD-6 for an only knife. $100.

If I were to take 2 fixed blade knives, I would take a Fallkniven F-1 ($85) and a machete ($20-30) or hatchet ($20).

Economically, the RD seems like the best way to go.

My suggestion would be the F1. Dont bother about the coated version unless you want a combat looking knife. If you choose the zytel sheath you will have no problem with moisture and such. If you use the knife to gut an animal or other icky business the zytel sheath is outstanding. You can put it in the washing machine or boil it.

If you use the knife with combat gear, the sheath fits between the straps in Molle/PALS.

Yeah the Grunt is a great knife and actually feels much bigger than it is. The handle is the best I have held and the knife also came far sharper than any of my other knives.
I just prefer Carbon knives but if it's stainless ya want then you won't regret a Grunt !!!

I use a F1 and RD 4 (with some extra custom work) almost every time I go out. Both are great knives. The F1 is noticably lighter on the belt. I also recommend the Bark River Fox River if you are looker from something a little lighter/smaller.
