Knife for wife?

Ideally I would pick a small fixed blade and anchor the sheath inside the purse somewhere. That way it can be pulled out and used with no opening or fiddling. Someone suggested the Brous Silent Soldier, good choice. Just make sure that you thoroughly read the knife laws in your area.

Now that I've made a valid suggestion, I would not recommend a knife. Pepper spray, a SAP, a kubaton or sturdy flashlight are all good options I would recommend first. Whichever way you decide to go, take her to a basic self defense class. You can do it as a couple and she will learn lots of valuable info; pressure points and such.

No you're right, but if the guy wants to get his wife a knife to use for SD so she doesn't get her hair brush bloody then its his choice...

objects available anywhere and already in the typical purse (or pocket) like keys, hair brushes, or pens etc might be easier to use effectively than a knife with some brief training.

I don't know anything about this and it's not a topic I'm that interested in, but I never get how a pen can be more effective than a knife... they're both pointy objects and I'd rather be stabbed by a pen any day!

Pen isn't for necessarily for stabbing. Its a pressure point tool. Like a kubotan.

And a pen to the eye is damn effective.

Knife for wife?

Call me twisted if you will, but I thought you were trying to trade your wife for a knife? I knew there were "knife Nuts" on this forum, but I thought surely he doesn't want a knife that bad. :D

i thought the exact same thing
but then again i know i am slightly twisted

A few weeks ago I got my girlfriend A Spyderco N
ative for our anniversary. I have to admit I never really had too much interest in one for myself, but it comes in pink, which fit her request of "just a pink knife." I did play around with it before I gave it to her, and it seemed pretty solid. Came incredibly sharp and locks up very tight. After I gave it to her she mentioned that it felt comfortable in her hand, and that it fit very nicely in her purse. You can find them for about $70
This is a good one. Got my wife the pink Native last year and she loves it.

Fred Perrin La Griffe or a Kabar TDI. I actually tend to think knives are not a bad self defense tool for women, somewhat less so for men, though.

My wife has a Cold Steel safekeeper in her purse. This push dagger variation is single edged which is a little more legal than double edge. I have been trying to get her to get a concealed carry license to be on the safe side. Of course she hasn't. I hope she doesn't get caught with it. ;) Anyway, I can't imagine a more effective SD weapon for a novice.

i read this twice and i thought you were trading your wife... for a 200$ fixed blade. and i also read twice that she can be used for self defense and she is vicious..... can you say dyslexia?

Lexdysia? Never heard of it.

While everyone has valid points, it really is not your decision make. If he wants to get her a s.d. knife, he can do so because it is his decision. Not yours. Be respectful and give him a recommendation, not your opinion of why he is wrong for doing so. How do you know she does not have training? Never assume for the obvious reasons! His question was not should I get a s.d. knife or just pepper spray. I am sure he has thought about this before posting it.

Again valid points, but not what he asked for.

1) Why is it that everyone assumes a woman would want a pink knife?

 If the colour is the overriding factor, it's maybe a bad idea to buy her a knife in the first place. Start with some proper SD training, then maybe she'll pick her own SD tool(s).
