My Big brother was big on comics. He wasn't the most popular dude in school partially because he was always nose deep in a comic book. One day my dad dropped us off at a local comic book convention. I thought to myself "My bro is gonna make lots of friends here, because all these guys love comics" I was wrong. Most of guys we met quickly became enemies because they were from different factions of the comic book world. DC vs. Marvel. Superman vs. Batman. X-men vs. The Avengers. These guys were very opinionated and they revealed in the debate, unfortunately they all ended up going home alone to read about their favorite hero.

Guys don't let this happen to us knife geeks. Forgive your fellow knife fan for loving "that other knife company" or your "least favorite premium steel" and respect each other for our shared love of sharp steel. Honest discussion is great, but don't forget to cultivate respect and solidarity. I've seen a few too many threads get outta hand, where people forget that we are all standing on common ground.

I agree with this line of thinking. That's why I think more people should come to the NJ KCA meeting every month. Everyone and anyone can come you know. :D

You sending me a plane ticket for that meet? :)

"can't we all just get along"

Tell me more about this meeting...

At this point I'd love to befriend some people who didn't think that Fury or S&W were top of the line, or that knives are "illegal weapons" even. I turned on a friend of mine to edc-ing a knife. He thinks that the Kershaw BlackOut is A #1! Since that's pretty much all he has seen aside from some beat up benchmades and spydercos.

What a great metaphor and could not make more sense!

We are all hear for one BIG reason...KNIVES!!!

Thanks for that. ;]

HotSwat, thanks for this thread. I see this type of thing happen far too often. It's been happening on various other forums I participate on for photography, cars, etc.
Just today on a photography thread about photographer's rides where they post pics of their vehicles, one guy who lives in the city and owns several vehicles posted one of a raised 4x4 on knobby tires etc. Another member insulted him stating that he has no respect for someone who owns a vehicle like that but never takes it off road, calling him one of "Those guys". What the hell does that mean?
I had to chime in asking why something like that should cause him to lose all respect for the guy. I have a hard time tolerating ignorance like that. If you're going to judge someone, judge them for their actions and character, how they treat others, not their their material possessions. To me, judging someone based on their possessions usually hints at plain old jealousy.
Anyhow, enough of my rambling, just wanted to share that with hopes that people realize and get focused back on the purpose of forums, which to me is to share thoughts and ideas on common interests, not bash one another because they don't have the exact same likes as you.

Peace!

NJ KCA meeting is the New Jersey Knife Collectors Association meeting. You don't have to be a member anyone can come. It's held once a month in Clark, NJ at Tarantellas Restaurant. Its usually the third Sunday of the month at 1PM. Good food, cold beers, good people, and some of the sweetest knives you'll ever have the chance to check out and handle. I'm pretty new to the meetings, but in my short time going to them we have had travellers show up. Supposedly there have even been some travellers from across the pond. All are welcome. PM me if you want any more info.

Mustangs, Chevelles, Goats, Cudas, Firebirds, I love them all. To the above post: it sounds more like a petty 'lifestyle decisions' critique [regarding the 4x4 brouhaha], vs. pure materialism, [my 2c*, as to "what did that mean"]

I think fanboyism is just that - boys, as opposed to men who just appreciate sharp steel and otherwise don't give a ###k.

Worst case of fanboism I've encountered in IT Apple and still the ongoing notorious Ati vs nVidia fight. Those fans literally scare me. I'm big fan of good knives. wether they are Busse, Bark River, Esee etc in Fixed blade or Spyderco, ZT, BM etc in Folders.

Thanks for a great thread.
I love my out of date steel, puma's
I will always use them and try to justify to my self why my fallkniven should come with me instead.
All knives are great!!!!!!!

Sometimes a couple of posters get into arguements to the point that they

should get a room. Let other posters discuss the thread.

OMG spiderco(;)) is the best kife companie eva! u othr kife fans thik benchamde is good wel scrw u!

That was fun, never talked like that before.

Anywho, yeah..... We really should not get so heated. Some guys take it WAY to personal like they built the company themselves. Half the time the maker or "founders" do not even get themselves worked up.
In the end I like what I like and you like what you like... Does not mean you should cut my throat for it.

Spyderco FTW :D
