My daughter Marissa’s birthday is December 6, 1982. She is currently studying/interning for her
Specialist Certificate for working with terminally ill children. She knows how to use a knife and she is proficient with a handgun. As is my wife. And we’re all ‘
city folk’!
I said I would put a bit of a twist on this – so here goes.
When my daughter was playing in Little League baseball, I sponsored several teams each season (someone has to do it). At the end of the season, and the rankings and playoffs were finalized, I noticed one
common reaction.
Those teams that came in first were obviously very happy. But the teams that came in third were also quite pleased: “
Hey, we’re right up there – let’s do better next year!”
However, the teams that came in second were often, if not quite unhappy, at least a bit miffed: “
Geez, we missed it by only this much!”
That’s why I actually have
three Swiss Army Knives with
pink handles to give away

and they will be sent to:
Amy – December 6 - Surok
Rebecca – December 9 – severtecher
Corinne - December 10 - James Todd
Plus, I have four of the silicone “
Cockroachfarm” Reminder Bands remaining that I was giving to my BFC friends at BLADE this year and I’ll send those to the next four young ladies in line.
Hailey – December 13 – Big Smitty
Morgan – December 21 – Let It Bleed
Stephanie – November 26 – abcdef
Katherine – December 28 – Texas Slim
Hope that’s OK? This was a lot of fun – thanks to everyone who participated. May all your daughters bring you as much joy as mine has brought to me.
Please PM or email me with the correct names and mailing addresses. Knives will be sent to the father; bands will be sent directly to the daughter (I know most kids love getting mail addressed to them!)
(another contest will follow as soon as I can think of something that involves kids or wives!)
