I just want to find a group which is more open toward budget knives being I cannot afford $500 to $2000 custom knives and I may be new here but I know there is a hatred for budget knives in this forum. And I am not here to get pissed on and called out because I cannot afford what many of you consider a real knife. So can anyone please recommend a more fitting knife group for me that gets more into budget knives? I looked online and could not find any

I know people get testy with clones or get worked up on "overseas manufacturing" sometimes, but in general it's ok here I'd say. It might be worth hanging out a bit more.

But to find people discussing a different variety like you say, you might try other forums with a different but related focus. An example would be edcforums.com. Actually "EDC" focused sites are pretty good when it comes to more of a low-end skew, so you might try a site like everydaycarry.com if you aren't specifically looking for forums.

I think you may just be seeing what you want to see. There are a ton of memebers here that love budget blades. Budget will also mean different things to different people.

What are your favorite budget knives?

Here are some of mine.

I just do not want to get my head bit off over an overseas made knife. I cannot always afford made in USA and even my best knife a Spyderco Endura 4 is made overseas.

There’s a lot of love for budget knives here. Just post questions and you’ll get good answers. Yes you may get some haters but ignore that.
Great budget knives-
Ontario rat 1, 2. Ontario utilitac.
Steel Will
Real steel
Kershaw
Schrade make good fixed blades
Kabar makes inexpensive fixed blades.
Spyderco has a budget line and byrd knives.

I like everyone of those except for the bottom. Only reason for that is I am not a fan of liner locks after having mine go out on my
Rat 1 folder and unrepairable from shearing the back of the blade creating an angle.

A great man named Pat taught me the meaning of VALUE. The members of this forum recognize value in inexpensive and expensive knives. They also recognize lack of value within the same criteria. The words should not be used interchangeably. I will throw out the USA Made Blade Kershaw Knockout in M390 as an affordable knife with a lot of value. I bet you will find many people here who will agree. Some of us put added value into a USA made knife and that is our opinion. If you told me i had to carry an Endura 4 made in Taiwan I would be fine with that.

The Endurance is a great knife. 3 of 4 that I posted above are overseas.

Here are a couple from China. One is super budget and one not so much.

Chinese made knives are a common topic. Yes there are those who prefer US made knives but many fine knives are made in the Far East. WE knives for example and the Massdrop knives made by WE. I have the Gent and it's terrific. I also have a Bestech which is amazing for the money.

There are many members here including myself who have lots of expensive knives but at the same time get very excited for a good budget knife.

I haven’t seen any anger towards budget knives on this forum at all. The only budget knives that recieve hate are crappy ones that are either poorly made or a clone. Infact you will often find peopke with 20 Sebenzas espousing the virtues of a 40$ Rat 1 or a 35$ Cutjack when recommending a folder to a member with a tight budget.

I absolutely love my Kershaw Emerson cqc7k. My waved Spyderco Endura is at the upper limit of what might be considered a budget knife but I absolutely love it. I even have a Ganzo and a Sanrenmu that are outstanding knives.

While there are those "US made only" fans here, that doesn't mean they're in the majority. I've been blown away by knives made overseas and I fully expect that, with time, they'll become much more universally accepted. As long as you're not buying blatant clones or promoting companies that deal in that type of dubiousness, you'll be fine here.

A lot of us didn't start out buying $100-200 knives, and most of us still have an affection for the knives we started out with and continue to use those knives. Just don't be surprised if you turn into one of us, haha.

Some good ones.
Rat 1. Steel will cutjack. Real steel h6, gerfalcon. Cold steel voyager. Spyderco tenacious. Kershaw link, leek. Esee avispa

I have been debating between the Rat 1 and Esee Avispa in D2 steel for great edge retention. The Rat 1 I am not fond of over their use of liner lock which has went out on me in past. The Esee Avispa I think is a frame lock which I have no experience with as far as reliability goes. I am actually on Ebay debating on it right now.

There are a lot of threads devoted to high end knives.
There are also a lot of threads devoted to less expensive knives.
You will have to pick and choose which ones to post in. If the topic of a thread is about expensive knives, throwing up a comparison to an inexpensive one is not going to go over well. The same comment in a thread devoted to inexpensive knives is likely to be well liked.

Also, you will have to learn to differentiate between "Clone" and "made overseas" .
♦ A "clone" is a blatant copy of someone else's design. And they are not well thought of by folks on BF. A thread devoted to clones is likely to get shut down.
♦ "Made overseas" can be a knife designed by a US manufacturer, but made overseas. OR it can be an original design, designed and manufactured in another country. These are fair game for discussion.

You got me thinking on that Kershaw Knockout M390. Looks like a great blade and imo a good value.

First off welcome to the forums Joshua.

I think if you spend a bit more time here reading threads and using the search function ... you will find some members fall into strictly budget knives others strictly higher priced offerings ...

but the majority seem to fall somewhere in the middle and have some more expensive knives and some budget knives ... but look for value over price ... if a knife is worth the higher cost then they may step up and buy one ... but also if a less expensive knives provides good value they have some of those in their collections too ...

I personally own everything from old Case and Buck or SAK slipjoints to CRK Sebenzas for folders and fixed blade Bucks and Moras to Carother Performance Knives because all have a place and use ... and are a value for what I get.

But you won't be put down for buying budget blades if those are what you like or can afford ... the only thing I see anyone get jumped on for truely are clones ... and that is for obvious reasons.

Thank you for the welcome. I think I will be alright here after all. I got quite a bit to learn. And I do avoid clones unless I buy one with no knowledge.

Spend some time here. I think you'll find it has exactly what you're looking for. I've only been a registered member here since March of this year but I have found the forum VERY open to discussion on budget friendly knives. Hell, I have a nine page thread basically devoted to nothing but budget friendly knives (and sharpening equipment) and everyone has been extremely friendly and have offered fantastic advice.

Welcome to BladeForums!
