I got a Bushcrafter from Koster and had him put my black paper Micarta on the handle. He bead-blasted the Micarta but it still is not "textured enough" for me. What are my options? Can anybody here do a decent checkerboard?
What else could I do?
Any and all thoughts will be greatly appreiciated.

I think you should ask Mr. Koster.

He'll probably do a little more embellishment for you pretty easily.

blast with a more aggressive grit.

or

replace the paper Micarta with a coarser material such as canvas Micarta, or G10
then blast

or

buy a knife that you already like as is.

I realize everything that you have said and if foresight was 20/20 I wouldn't be in this boat....I'm trying to salvage what I have. Mr. Koster is in no way shape or form to fault. He gave me exactly what I asked for.

that's what I'm saying - in order of possibilities

you can still re-blast it with a more aggressive grit.

If those are not the results you want...
then replace the handle material.

I don't have a blaster and if I did replace the slabs on this beauty...it would be my first time.
Oh well, I'll think of something.

I stippled part of a paper Micarta handle with a 3/32" ball burr in my rotary tool. It took a while, but ended up working pretty well.

I've done checkerboarding on a couple bowies. It's not that hard, if your interested drop me a line and I'll walk you through it.

The stippling with a ball burr isn't a bad idea. You could mask off the handle so you leave some exposed panels, then stipple inside of the panels. Peel off the tape for a nice contrast.

An electric engraving pencil is the quickest and easiest way to stipple anything.

I have sanded linen micarta in a cross direction with 100 grit wood paper and got lots of grip for hunters, not as much as the tutorial but easier and limits the slip in skinning. Just back the paper with a semi-flexable backing (thick leather folded over) sand in one direction and then rotate 90 degrees and sand in the other. No need to go to far just scratch the surface the depth of the grit, you can also use a coarser grit but 100 seems to work fine

What about using and old belt for backing?
