Knife handle survey - and question

Wood, any wood actually, is for the looks and the sensual pleasure to handle a knife with unique scales. And it's outstanding and unique. Nothing equals. I love my woodhandled knives best. Now, if it's only about performance and reliability, then G10 and Micarta would be where I'd put my money. They are not bad looking at all, by the way. I have some linen Micarta scaled knives which are truly beautiful.

I prefer non-metal handles on folders (aluminum, Ti, steel, whatever). I am all over the place on fixed blades, but I believe that the synthetics tend to be the strongest and more durable over time on fixed blades. I have been pleased with micarta and g-10. I generally don't like zytel, but I do like the FRN handles used by Spyderco folders.

If I had to pick a single handle material on fixed blades, I would choose wood or stag. On traditional folders, I like everything, but if I had to choose one scale or handle material, it would be jigged bone. On modern folders, I tend to like G-10.

I tend not to buy fixed blades with the classic leather washers used for the handles. But I think they look really good.
