Knife Handling

So everyones throwing, and prying with their knives? What are you guys cutting over there? What are you using now?

So is it more cost effective for the military to teach a basic "Kinds of Knives and their Proper Use and Care" course or sew fingers and toes back on?
One of my greatest irritations is children's toys, Nerf stuff, binoculars that don't focus, bows with arrows that 'flip' in the air and all the other 'it is made for kids so let's make it cheap and crappy 'cause they will break it anyway' junk that is sold. Kids have this vision or expectation when they are handed something that looks cool but breaks 5 minutes later if it ever performed at all and they are discouraged from ever trying again.
The soldiers are buying good knives but the knives don't live up to their misconceptions. Falls in with the Japanese swords cut anything myth. Some people will learn harder than others. The soldiers who have a bad experience may never buy another knife. If they don't see some kind of training the BX makes out like a bandit and/or the brass will ban knives as too dangerous.
Of course even us 'pros' get sliced and diced pretty often though it is usually not the same kind of injuries a novice might suffer. Can you get a Purple Heart for closing a knife on your knuckles in the heat of battle?
