Knife I found in an abandoned house 30 years ago

It's kind of cool. Definitely has a nice patina. :p

I'd hazard to guess it was a farm/camp/hunting/trapping knife, probably made by a farmer or blacksmith. That leather sheath, while rough and handmade - certainly appears to be functional and fits the knife well.

Yikes! I bet there’s a felony inside the sheath too😦

It looks to have a name inscribed on it and USMC on the other side
It's certainly not a gov't issued knife (to the best of my knowledge), but who knows who carried what - especially if this is a Vietnam-era blade. For all we know, this could have been owned by a soldier and he found it somewhere on his travels. It makes sense he would inscribe his name on it.

The speculations are infinite.

Disturbingly 1990 was 30 years ago. Not discovered in the Vietnam era...

I do think the mystery behind it is fun to speculate. What is the handle material? Steel? Does it hold an edge and have you used it in those 30 years? I think the humor is it will rust if left in the sheath

Could be the very inspiration for the American tanto, that's pretty much what the blade design is. Interesting.

Looks like a knife someone made for a military servicemember, and that service # shows up in the Register of Commissioned and Warrant Officers of the United States Navy 1963

This knife could have a lot of meaning to a family - BF community might need to try and reunite this knife to its rightful owners?

That handle material looks like the stuff brake pads are made of.

Vietnam was too long ago - but - the Gulf Was war 30 years and a few months ago.
