Hi Guys,

This folder belonged to my grandfather and I'm wondering if anyone has any information on it.
http://members.dynamite.com.au/asimpson/folder.jpg

The larger blade is marked 'K55K Germany' (the second K is backwards on the blade) on one side and 'H Y.KAUFMANN & SONS SOLINGEN' on the other.

Closed the knife is around 3in long, the bolsters look like aluminium and the handle is possibly bakelite (sp?)

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Andre

According to Levine it's Heinric & Soehne Kaufmann located in Germany from about 1856 to now.Value is listed as lower collectable wise.Judging from your picture it appears that the master blade had broke at some point in time and was ground to it's present shape.Hope this was of some help.

Strider:

Thanks, I'm not worried about the monetary value, it has to much sentimental value.

Like I said any info is appreciated, I know know twice what I did.

I knew I had seen something like that....just found it in a drawer.
Difference is that the Main blade is a spey blade and there is a tweezer in a slot at the butt. On the other side, there was a splinter pick. Can't be far away.
The tweezer and pick were a regular feature of traditional folders sold in Australia in days of yore......something to do with the nature of the hardwoods used in our rural fencing.

Also, I think Kaufmann made the "Cat" folders of the two World Wars.....sheetmetal handles and a backlock. With the figure of a cat on the handle. Could be wrong.
