Knife Joy Slysz Bowie Second Run Coming!

Not knocking it too hard but I just handled the new Knife Joy at Blade Texas and I’ll take a Swayback every time. Possibly the original handle finish would change my mind, possibly.

I figure that if I'm lucky enough to get one, it'll be easy to resell, as long as I don't mess w/it. Might even make some $ on it. LOL! ;)

I figure I'll give it a go. Never handled one and missed out on a couple of retail priced ones.
So it might be the cheapest Ican ever get one to handle.
Keep it or resell for my money back

I'd love to get one at this drop since I missed out on the original and the first Knifejoy reissue.
I know that $450 is a lot, but it has gotten rave reviews from a ton of people. And I really like the design.
This begs the question "what knife would you buy for $450 instead?"
Don't say Sebenza cuz I already have one. :)

There are quite a few knives in my collection that I've paid around $450 for.

Most recently, a LNIB Spyderco Gen 1 Janich/Snody Ronin (FB09); two Shawn Vallotton custom autos; an unused (but less than perfect) Randall #2-7 Fighting Stiletto; a LNIB Shiro Quantum Urus; a LNIB Spyderco Gen 1 Lum Folder Black G10 DLC PE (C45GPBK) and a LNIB ZT 0600.

But I still haven't purchased a Slysz Bowie of any type for any price yet. 🤷‍♂️

A Demko ad20 or ad20s

The KnifeJoy Slysz Bowie exclusive for $450 is not as outrageous as it seems. A plain Chris Reeve Large Sebenza 31 MagnaCut is now $500. Both are very well made with matte titanium and crowned blade spine. CRK still has no Lockbar Insert/Overtravel Stop for the titanium frame lock. CRK has a nicer titanium clip.

I also prefer the original finish on the blade and titanium when it came out in 2014.

I purchased my original Slysz Bowie Folder (C186TIP) with CTS-XHP Blade and Titanium Handle when it was first released in September 2014 for $279.95 from Cutlery Shoppe. So, I paid 44% off MSRP of $499.95 in the pre-MAP days.

Even the CPI Inflation Calculator says $280 in September 2014 is now $362.80 but to that add the upgrades and $450 for such exclusivity is not unreasonable.

Is it worth $450? I think so for many who have paid well over $500 for one the past several years on eBay.

The thing that I don't like about the Slysz Bowie is that the blade is less than 3.5" long but the width of the blade/handle should help to make up for that.

I'll just have to see how it feels/looks in my hand, if I can get one, and then decide if I want to keep it or not.

The blade length of 3.43" makes it legal in those places with 3.5" limits and it's about the same blade length as the ParaMilitary2. The Slysz Bowie has more of a cutting edge than PM2.

The one thing I still don't like is the G-10 backspacer. Much rather have barrel spacers matching the titanium scales.

What exactly is the “lock bar insert/over travel stop”? Does it prevent you from pressing the frame lock too far when releasing locked blade?

Nice looking knife

Steel lock bar insert prevents sticky lock when titanium is in contact with steel as well as wear on the lock face.

Overtravel stop prevents the lock bar from going too far out when opening and not bending the lock bar.

Say, RamZar, are you back on BF now or are you just slumming? LOL! 🤔

I'd prefer to buy an original CTS-XHP Slysz Bowie which is not anno'd but people are asking around $1k for them now which is goofy!

It looks like they got rid of that polished stonewash blade finish? Have to admit I can't see why people are rushing to pay Sebenza money for these. I did just pick up a Swayback, though, and I'm really impressed with it as a Sebbie alternative at the current pricing.

Yeah - I much prefer the scale's finish on the original, as well as the original's slightly shiny stonewashed blade. Just a much better aesthetic, and better for hiding wear and use.

I am un-decided on whether I'll try to snag one of these - in the meantime I spent a little extra for a new Shirogorov F3, just in case I miss out or I do get the Slysz and don't like it. The extra $250 or so is well worth it in my eyes (or find a $550 Shiro NeOn NL with 3.375" blade). An extra $350 will get a you a verrrry nice Herman.

For a price that is a bit closer to the Slysz you could also consider an Arno Berna iMamba with polished RWL-34 blade, or a Spyderco Drunken in S90V if you want a Spyderco, a Hinderer XM-18 3.5" (in 20CV M390 S45VN or Magnacut), A Spartan SHF (in S45 or Magnacut), or an Insingo blade CRK Inkosi (in S45VN or Magnacut. I think Inkosi is my favorite vs Sebenza).

I'd be curious to hear from Bowie owners how similar the action feels to the Sebenza, that would be a big determining factor. Only the Swayback has that unique stop pin design that seems to keep the action rigid but glassy like a Sebenza. Without that, I don't see how the Bowie makes sense when it's priced so close to a Sebenza. If my Swayback is any indication, I'm guessing it's built with a high level of fit and finish but certainly not to the level of a CRK. Also, I think the ceramic ball is a better solution than a lockbar insert. The Sebenza doesn't seem to need an overtravel stop (CRK would know if it did because they'd be dealing with the warranty issues, which is why they added it to the Umnumzaan).
