Hello guys,

i have my custom-made hunting knife from movie Jurassic World that i ordered from knife maker a less then a year ago.
I also ordered sheath for it from local leather workshop.
However since sheath doesn't have strap to hold knife,it started to fall out of the sheath even while light walking with it,and i don't need to say what happens when i run or sit with it.
I carry it ''scout style'' (horizontally, but i guess you know that)on belt, and behind my back.

Is there any way for me to fix sheath so the knife stop falling out?
Since this is my first ''real'' knife and leather sheath i would like you to tell me in detail how to fix that of course if you have time and will, and if that's even fixable.

This is picture of a knife and sheath.
PS sorry for picture quality i have used web cam.

I have taken leather, of the proper thickness, and adhered it to the inside of the sheath 'throat' to tighten up the fit....making it over-tight and letting it break in with the knife in place.....or, better yet, send it back to the Sheathmaker and let them fix it up to your liking like has been suggested. ;)

I think that a friction fit at the throat is an inadequate system in any case - I'd add a keeper of some kind.

The knife in the photos appears to be about a 50/50 handle to blade ratio and will cause problems in anything horizontal or near horizontal.
The sheath, while well made, is not the proper design for the particular knife it carries. Even with an added retention strap which would be the obvious answer to it falling out, it will never carry well because the belt loop placement is too far forward on the sheath. The extra length and weight of the handle on that fulcrum point will always be unbalanced.

The knife would be best served in a deeper seat pouch style where the mouth of the sheath is well up on the handle. At least half OR MORE of the handle inside the sheath and the belt loops moved much more toward the mouth of the sheath so that when the knife is in the sheath the loops are aligned at the very least with the lower portion of the handle. They should be at or above the balance point of the knife.

The foregoing is my personal opinion and the way I would do it. This may not be the best for everyone......to each his own.

Best regards,

Paul

This is how I do mine with 2/3 of the handle in the sheath. With the sheath hot waxed and form fitted to the knife so there is excellent retention but easy retrieval.

You can also use niobium (sp?) magnets, which is what was done in that movie I believe.

If you have some real sentimental value to this send it to Paul Long. He may not be able to make it how you think it should work, but he will make it the closest possible. He's also an extraordinarily fine person and you'll be better off after having a conversation with him. Local leather used to mean American grown thick grade leather. I would by very cautious of any shop claiming that nowadays though.
