Knife Knut Vindication

Sad to say I´ve become a cynic (or if you also are a cynic that would read "realist"). I use my knife while no one sees it and then people start to ask "how did you get that one open?" or "how did you cut that string?".

My response? "You have to have that special touch... I just don´t know, it just happened." With a puzzeled look on my face.

Let them gnaw away. I´m not paying their dentist bill anyway. If you´re a sheeple living in denial, I don´t care. I cut, you chew. Guess who of us is lower in the food chain?

(ooh, I´m in THAT kind of mood right now - sorry)

/Colinz

I've been carrying knives since I was eight years old. My dad bought me my first real knife at eight years old, and other than my family and a few select friends, I've lived among the sheeples ever since. But now I'm home;). When I was active duty Air Force I couldn't believe how many rediculous sheeple were enlisted! There were pilots who were issued camillus AF knives and rolled their eyes when I used my Wave for something! Unfathomable! I'm not even going to mention the people at IBM! But now I'm the manager in a small warehouse and it's knife paradise. I carry my MOD stinger in open Horizontal carry and no one bitch's about it...

actually, i think the flashlight incident is relevant. he was getting ribbed for carrying the tool around like it was ridiculous to carry around a tool on a daily basis to be prepared, but those same fools end up depending on him because he has that tool handy when it's needed.

exact same concept as knives.

i guess i'm fortunate to live in an area where the sheeple have no fear of knives (yet). i use my knives in front of customers quite often during the day, and i've received comments like "wow, that's sharp" or "nice knife." oh well. i'm sure in different environments i'd get ribbed, but that's why i've stayed at this job for 16 months even though it doesn't pay much: i don't have to deal with much BS.

Unless these tasks are your actual job, just claim you can't do them anymore, because you no longer carry a knife.

Anyone else have to use their knife to save the evening for people that usually give you a hard time about always being "armed?"

I'm always armed and damn proud of it ! :D

I was at Lowe's (Garden side) this weekend. There were 4 - 5 people hunched over a pallet of goods. . .lots of chatter. I walked over and they were trying to undo the plastic strapping that was securing the goods to the pallet. Several had the typical "El Cheapo" knives and the plastic strapping was kickin' their butt ! I walked over. . .whipped out my Microtech LCC DA. . .said excuse me. . .fired it and tore me up some plastic strapping.

No one freaked out. Got a bunch of "holy sh!t's". . ."man, that's cool."

The Lowe's retard wasn't too happy. Guess I made him feel bad by doing his job.

I had to cut open a number of very strong shipping boxes recently-they were from an overseas shipment of valves. If I hadn't been carrying a good blade, I don't know how we would have gotten them open. There was no help from the warehouse folks. Keys would have been totally useless-heavy 3 ply cardboard.

I don't get too many comments, even from the DOE folks I do work for. A couple of guys in the office keep firearms handy, so a pocket knife is not noticed.

It does amaze me how many people don't carry something as useful as a knife.

On two particular visits to my in-laws, the fact that I was "carrying" saved them from some hefty bills and miserable times:

1) I used a BM-Emerson to inlet a door jamb when their back door wouldn't lock properly (went through the steel strike plate, too).

2) I fixed the hot water heater for their building on a New Year's eve (during a Chicago cold-snap) with the Leatherman SuperTool I always travel with. Spent five hours on my stomach, on the basement floor, but the building had hot water when I was finished. Without that carry, noone would have had hot water for fours days.

Prior to those events, I had some weird looks and several comments, e.g. "Why do you carry those big knives?" Now, they assume I'm carrying a large knife and a multi-tool, and I always ask what needs to be fixed. Those two events changed a number of attitudes.

The question now is, do they carry a knife and/or multitool now? Or have they not learned yet and still rely on you to have a knife/multitool?

It's surprising to me that so many people appreciate the usefulness of them, yet they're not willing to EDC any blade of any type. Kinda ironic.

Hi Screehopper:

I've bought my father-in-law a Supertool,a micra, and a Mongin (4" blade with light horn handle). Both of which are never far from him. He's never without a large SAK, as well.

My mother-in-law now reguests that I make certain her kitchen cutlery is sufficiently sharp (before, she didn't see the reason). She ends up borrowing EDCs from her husband.

My brothers and sisters in-law have all received multi-tools and/or knives from me as gifts. Those gifts were very well received, and are in daily use.

In short all the in-laws are now EDC'ers. Sounds like a fairy tale, but those simple acts changed attitudes.

Best regards.

I've seen several people at work jab and poke a packing tape with a pen or keys. Its like watching a fly bounce into a window trying to get out of the house.

That's gotta be one of the best quotes on here of all time.:D

My buddy at work told me that someone in the office saw him open his Spyder Teruzila (sp?) to prepare his lunch. She said, "Oh, my! Why do you carry THAT thing?"

He said, "Because they won't let me carry my pistol."

I love it.:)

Isn't this thread great? I am really enjoing reading it. Even though I have read similar threads before.

I think, that even though we bitch about all the NKCKs, this feeling we get when we do it, is worth almost as much as the pleasure from owning, using or sharpening a real nice blade.

Well, if everybody carried knives, we would not feel special.

Comments anyone?
