Knife Laws in Mexico????

Weapons in Mexico are prohibited.

That said, everything in Mexico is subjective. If someone with a badge wants to give you a hassle they will: maybe for a bribe, maybe because they want to confiscate what you have, maybe to fill an arrest quota, and maybe just for the heck of it. That said, the odds of it happening are very low if you aren't doing anything to attract attention to yourself. Of course what could attract attention to yourself is subjective as well.

I personally don't think the risk is anywhere close to the reward, but YMMV. If you decide to go ahead, I'd advise buying locally and disposing of locally. Some form of small multi-tool might be your best bet.

Perhaps you should bring a Bic pen? Use prison tactics and stab ... Repeat as needed.

screwdrivers are really bad for making sandwiches. I'm going in june, I figure SAK, Opinel#7, and maybe izula. but the izula would go with a couple space blankets and a firesteel in the first aid kit, so its a "survival kit" since we'll be resorting it for most of the stay, I figure, no problems.
any thoughts?

I carried an MOD Mark V (original, not blackhawk crap) for three months through Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Mexico, and was never given a problem by anyone. I was sensible with it the whole time, not carrying it strapped to my chest, but I also never made any effort to hide it and used it out in the open frequently in every country. I can't say it ever got more than a second look (and still, probably only that because it's an evil looking bastard). Typically in Latin America, unless you're in a heavily populated city, you're probably not going to run into an issue, in fact, I'd be very surprised if you did. Though it may be funny, I don't think it's a bad idea to have some extra dinero just in case somebody hassles you. You'd be amazed how far a 10 or 20 bucks'd go... svbrighid, Machetes abound in all of those countries, but you typically only see them in rural areas. You won't find the help at a resort in Cozumel carrying a bushwhacker on his hip. Chiapas? Different story.

just have some extra pesos so you can pay off anybody that gives a hard time:D

They like $ too. I had a $5 "fine" for my EKI karambit in Aucapulco last month.

And yes, I was stupid for having it clipped in my pocket.
