The state I live in(Mich.) has a law that says a knife blade cant be longer

than 3". If a knife has a blade over 3" is used for Illegal intent its a felony.

I usually carry a folder in the 3 1/2- 4" range and dont worry about the knife

laws. Ive never had any trouble. I was stopped for a traffic violation..the

officer saw the pocket clip of my folder and didnt say a word.

IMO a big part of having trouble with the law has to do with how you

conduct yourself.

Do you follow your state knife laws or dont you worry about them?

I live in Michigan too, and I take my chances.
I am 30 years old. Stay out of trouble, and work construction which can help me have a reason for a decent knife.
I wouldn't go whipping out a 4" blade in front of a cop on purpose though :D

I don't really worry about the carry laws, although I will not carry an auto or balisong.

I try to use common sense, and I always have a Victorinox on me to pull out in a crowd so as to not draw attention.

Michigan does not have a length limit, unless you carry it with illegal intent.

I carry my Military most days. :D

Hi clockman -

I obey all local, state and federal regulations to the letter.

;)

best regards -

IL has a 3" limit and Chicago's is 2.5". I still carry the 710, because it is less than 2.5" in front of the recurve :D

Hey Josh K..The no limit length is what I meant to say about Michigan the

knife carry law. Thanks for the correction. :D:D

No problem. :D What part of the lovely state are you from and did you see the snow last week?:eek::cool:

I will push what the law in my state allows by an inch or 2 for my EDC but no more.

Of course.

The one New Mexico knife law I'd like to see changed, an exception for collectors to own automatic knives. Some states have such an exception and, to my knowledge, there hasn't been a single criminal episode as a result of such exceptions.

Please familiarize yourselves with the different subforums.
I have moved this to Knife Laws.

My fingertips are wearing out from moving threads today! :p

I do, actually. Or at least make every attemp to. CA state laws are pretty good with regards to length. But there are so many county and city laws that it's almost impossible to know them all. Many are vague, too. In my city there is a prohibition against "spring knives". In Los Angeles the carry law for fixed blades in in direct contradiction with state law. My taste in knives isn't likely to get me into much trouble, though. I would have to give a LEO a pretty good reason to get upset about a 4" stockman.

I absolutely obey every law to the letter (much as I think most of them are pretty stupid). If I don't, and get caught, I can kiss my concealed carry permit goodbye, and that's much more important to me than being able to carry a knife.

No idea what the laws are here in SC. Considering you can carry a concealed weapon on you i doubt they care unless ur carrying around a katana or something.

This pretty much sums it up for me. Don't use it to break the law and you should be OK. I carry what I consider a useful spring assist lock blade. Usually a Kershaw Leek or Gerber Fast Draw.

Cali has some pretty decent knife laws for such a screwed up state, so there is some good leeway as to what you can carry. Most days I have a folder or two, and my skeletool on me. I will occasionally carry a small fixed blade, but you have to open carry so it just depends on where you are.

I do try not to break any laws that I know about.

I live in New York City.........May I say more?

Even though the laws here are not the best I still carry my knives. Nothing bigger than a spyderco endura. I am a big fan of "little big knives". I have a spyderco cricket in my wallet for the times I know I will be going somewhere where there are metal detectors. Places like concerts, sporting events, major tourist attractions, etc. Most of the time I keep the knife in my RFP. Sometimes clipped, others not.

I have bigger knives like the military, a few automatic(big no no) but they only get carried around the house.

I am a law abiding citizen and do not ask for trouble. I never had a problem and hope to continue that. I am studying for a career in law enforcement and really dont need anything to screw myself.

I dont want to hijack but NYC sucks with laws in general. If it not knives its fireworks, if not fireworks its firearms or airguns, and so on.
Seems like the more something is illegal the more people want to disobey the law to get it.

can't carry any knife unless related to work in my city.
i still keep something cheap on me at work, i can make an excuse for it. but i don't carry anything when traveling around the city.

although, if i'm going to a bbq, i'll bring something. always need an extra knife at a bbq.
