Knife LED combo..?

I'm wondering why there isn't a quality knife/quality LED light combo out there (at least that I know of). Considering modern LEDs and battery tech., why wouldn't a major company produce an item like this? Flashlight, or knife company? I know I'm not the only one who carries a small flashlight and folding knife everyday. Someone needs to start these before someone else does.
I also wonder why they have internal lasers for guns, but not internal LEDs. A small LED is very useful, even with a tiny battery and short runtime. -Please tell me these are already out there.

are you talking about an all-in-one knife with a flashlight built in?

i've seen some people's pics with like a keychain LED light attached to their knives through the lanyard hole...

but personally, i'd like to be able to draw a flashlight without drawing my knife if possible. it'll scare fewer people that way.

Yeah, I'm thinking of an all in one deal. It wouldn't have to be a hard-core knife to include an LED. Think along the lines of the "micro-lights". Very slim button cells, pretty close to the thickness of most liners.
On a heavier-duty level, you could fit a AAA powered LED into a handle. Why not?

I've known of the Victorinox and Tool-logic combos too, but the Vic isn't very bright in my experience,
and although I've never hendled the Tool-logic, it looks pretty much like you taped a AAA light to it.

why? because its a bad idea.
A high quality knife will last generations. The light? a few years if you are lucky. Why have a high end expensive knife that is doomed to a short life because it has a short lived light in it?

Vic and Buck have the right idea. If you are going to make the light part of the knife, make it affordable so that when the light fails, you don't feel bad about not carrying the knife.

Cheap lights in an expensive knife just dont make sense. Its like buying cheap rims for your expensive car. It just is kinda dumb:P

I wouldn't want one either. It is a lot more comfortable to have two things separately. Easier to use, even easier to carry. Have a light on a key chain and don't worry about which knife in your edc rotation has a light and which one doesn't. Also easier to upgrade either one if you need more light or bigger/smaller/special knife for a task.

I guess I'm the only one. Still seems like a good idea to me. I guess I'm thinkin along the lines of why carry both if you could carry one. LEDs last 50,000-100,000 hours and they don't really break. I don't see how a well made flashlight can't last just as long as a knife.
I think if you were able to incorperate a light similar the a photon microlight into the handle of a knife similar to a Delica or Griptilian, and kept the price right, people would buy them up. Same goes for putting a 30+ lumen AAA with good runtime on a multi-tool. If it was small enough, I think people'd love it.

I like attaching a "Covert" tip Freedom Photon to my SAK. This way you get the convenience you mention, with two very good components, that can be taken apart as needed. Around the house, I'll attach a Fenix EO1 to my SAk. I like the Fenix better than the photon, but it is bigger, and is rough on the SAK scales.

in general, i simply like having the knife separate from the light.

plus, flashlight technology just keeps evolving so fast.

i get a new, "state of the art" pocket light every year or two.

Get a few clip-on LEDs, they can be found for about $5 each. You can clip these to your shirt/cap/whatever and be able to see while hiking or doing cutting chores. These would be more useful than on a knife.

Because at night I would like to hold my light with my left hand and my knife in my right, that way I can use the light and the knife at the same time. You can either have a great knife or a great light, but making an all in one just compromises both and makes both perform at a lesser extent.

With some duct tape and maybe a little epoxy you can have any knife/light combo you want! :D

It would be almost impossible for any new flashlight/knife combo to meet or exceed the awesomeness of the BladeLight. :p

I can't remember where I found this pic, but I think it's an old Frost Cutlery knife. IIRC, even the guy who designed it admitted it was pretty cheesy. :D

That's the Spyderco Jester with a Photon microlight amirite?

The photon is great! THe jester probably is too.

I wonder why no one has turned a good hollow handel knife into a quality flashlight. Could fit a few cr123 lithium batteries in there and make one heck of a bright light.

Don't know if this relates to your question, but I though I'd throw it out there.

Some years back MS Wally Hayes (of katana-making renown) made a custom, fixed blade version with a red LED in it.
