Knife life span.

As the O.P., I feel I should give context to my post. I am a survivalist and can imagine a survival situation where one can not just get online and order a new knife. Therefore I'm interested in blades that will last years of use.

Also, I don't think it's wrong to be a knife nut and covet a quality blade and want it to last ....

In my case the blades wore out before the liner locks.

The Smith & Wesson handle got a new aluminium "blade" for use as a trainer/stage prop. The Kershaw got sent in to the factory with a request for a quote on a replacement blade. They sent back a new knife of the same type...free, service way beyond what I expected.

I use my knives at work, not abusively, but if something needs cutting, no matter what it is... The only situations where I will go get a utility knife are jobs like cutting carpet against concrete where you know the tip will be destroyed. I sharpen 440A about 3-7 times/week, better steels like 154 CM, D2, etc about 1-4 times/week.

In a survival situation, I would want more than 1 knife. If I had only 1 I might be a bit more conservative about how I used it too.

I'm a Technical Director in the Theatre Industry, so I do whatever needs doing, carpentry, metal work, electrical, pneumatics, rigging, painting, upholstery, leather work, ..
