Aprox 1% of the population are sociopaths. A sobering statistic.

At time like this, I like to remind myself that 50% of the population have an IQ of less than 100.
 
Cars, alcohol and cigarettes kills millions people worldwide, eve more than guns and knives together, but are consumer products so that's why they are legal, also you can't defend yourself with them (or not likely) so that's the issue.

Actually, when the train arrived at the station,
and everybody started to run for their lives,
it was one of the passengers that took the killer down on the platform,
a 62 yrs old elder,
then the other passengers followed him to do the same.

When the police arrived,
the killer was already captured.
 
A very unfortunate incident indeed. It's the way of the world now it seems. Sadly, it is becoming more and more prevalent no matter where you live.

Then the authorities, in an attempt to placate the outraged populace, implement a knee jerk reaction which does nothing to curb the "bad guys" behavior at all, but just punishes the law abiding citizens and makes them more vulnerable in general.

Putting more laws and restrictions are of no concern to a lawbreaker anyway. What's one more law to break. Nothing.

I really fail to understand why the powers that be cannot grasp this and just fully enforce the laws already in place to the full extent, and quit plea bargaining everything down to next to nothing in order to keep that conviction rate up.

Sorry....off on a bit of a rant there. It's just that I've sat in court so many times and seen so many charges dismissed or pled down to a lesser charge, resulting in a slap on the wrist. These thugs are actually smirking on their way out the door.

And honestly, why shouldn't they be so self-satisfied? If I were a thug and I could always plea down or get it dismissed on a technically I'll be honest, I'd laugh all the way out the door.

Edit: I feel like we're drifting inexorably toward politics again so.... that's it for me.

I don't really get why this always happens in the non political forums, it's like some phenomenon.
 
He actually said he has always wanted to do something big like this so people know his name. He did indeed ask for the death penalty, when finally taken in by police (he was originally captured by a member of the bublic after he just gave up and dropped his knives). That plea for death is infact just a grasp for more infamy as he desperately wants to be the crazy weird guy that everybody talks about.......He is best left forgotten and not brought up months after the fact, IMO. He may well get the death penalty but Taiwan flip-flop on using it so often he will probably be on death row for a long time to come.

When I first read the OP, I was thinking of the coordinated knife attack in China where they killed over 30 people. That was messed up.

I do think this is part of the issue, and what adds to the seeming proliferation of these events.

Tragic as they are, if we'd relegate them to page 6 news and give the attacker as little mention as possible, fame-seekers would be not so quick to follow suit, methinks.
