• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

Knife lubricant

I use Rem Oil in the mechanisms which is a good, light lubricant that cleans, displaces moisture, and dries leaving a thin teflon film that lubricates without capturing dust. I often use mineral oil on the blades of knives I use for food prep.

Tuf-Glide and some Hi-Slip grease also from Sentry, occasionally Smooth-Kote, that's on normal folders, the assisted openers get Hi-Slip on the torsion bar contact points or Tuf-Glide on coil springs.

I either use sharpening stone oil, or just your typical all-purpose oil (three in one). They keep my pivot points lubricated for a long time and work great. Hell, if you are desperate any lubricating agent will do the job.

Since I'm a moderately avid air-gunner, I always seem to have a decent supply of Crosman Pellgunoil on hand, and that's what I use almost exclusively for my pivots, and most of my blades. On the one knife (A carbon steel Mora Classic) that I use exclusively for food-prep, I just keep a light coat of vegetable oil...and I'm not afraid of it going rancid since I use it at least every other day. A quick rinse and wipe before each use and I'm good to go, just in case.

Learn from my fail and don't get it on the tang if it's a liner lock! I thought there was a problem with my ZT0200 because the lock failed, but a squirt of brake cleaner and only lube in
the pivot fixed it.

I've been using baby oil (mineral oil + a scent, heh. Wife picked it up!). Seems to work wonderfully well. And I can cut food w/o a concern!

I can't remember the last time I have lubed a knife. Were I to do so, it might just be a little blast of WD-40. But any of the above should work just fine.

That pretty well describes my habits too. I make more effort to keep my knives clean, above all else, and usually give a little spritz of WD-40 after doing so. Beyond that, I generally forget about it. That's worked fine for me.

Does anyone use Krytox GPL-205 as your knife lube? I haven't tried it, but have heard good things, so I would like to.

I was just going to start a thread about whether anyone had good source for this stuff other than fleabay, so if you do, please post it here.
