Knife Maintenance, oils/wax?

I tested a bunch of stuff the last couple summers. I'm sure you can find them if you search my posts. If you want to see all the pics. None of the oils I tested held up very well...I was leaving steel out in the elements, the first rain would do most of them in. Frog lube and a beeswax/coconut oil mix I made were consistently the best. Burts bees lip balm also worked well, but didn't last quit as long.

Depends on the usage cycle of the knife. If it is regularly used I would apply an oil based protectant. If it is a knife used for food prep then make sure it is a food safe oil protectant. For infrequent use - or storage - Renaissance Wax hands down. And Renaissance Wax is safe on any knife handle material as well so it can be used to protect the whole knife. Just clean and degrease with Isopropyl alcohol, other cleaner, dry and work the wax into every part of the knife. It is premium stuff used by museums and other conservators.
