Knife Maker Assistance for Lefty

It was recommended that I reach out to the Knife Maker's in this forum for assistance. Are there any knife makers out there that can take some of the more popular Kershaw Folders ie - Zing, Skyline, Blue, Leek... and make the handle so I can reverse the clip for lefty carry? I guess the would require some minor drilling and threading...to make holes in order to reverse the clip on the opposite side of the handle. I was just curious if this was feasible and how much it would cost. Thanks

anything is possible, but with out seeing the knives in person i would not know what would be involved. being a mechanist the drilling and taping is a piece of cake but the problem is like with the skyline where the clip is in the pivot area of the knife. not knowing how there pivot works i don't know if you could drill the other side. it would have to be taken apart and looked at befor any drill would be considered.

Check out STR in Bartlesville, OKLAHOMA. He does all kinds of mods after market.

Argel55,

I tried looking up STR on go_gle and cannot find it. Is STR an abbreviation for something else?

the zing looks like it's already tapped for reversing the clip, to the bottom of the knife, anyway. there doesn't looks to be quite enough material just move it to the other side, without getting a clip oriented the other way.

i think that made sense, but the picture shows it:

the skyline has a straight clip, and looks like taping it would be simple.

blue seems to refer to at least a couple of their knives.

i know the clip on the leek is curved, and would have to be flipped to the bottom or replaced.

it all seems doable, but JT has it, with out having the knife in hand, it would be foolish to say for sure.

Kershaw is known for having pretty decent customer service - it might be worthwhile to contact them if you have a specific knife you'd like left-handed.

Also, you have probably read their FAQ at their website?

Do you make left-handed knives?
Yes, we do. Look for Kershaw knives with the Stud Lock feature. These knives can be opened with our ambidextrous blade protrusion, but the blade can be locked or unlocked with a stud on the blade that is easily accessible for both lefties and righties. Kershaw’s E.T. knives, Models 1900, 1900UCBLK, and 1900ST) also feature ambidextrous operation.

In addition, a variety of Kershaw knives feature ambidextrous opening. Many of our SpeedSafe® knives, for example, can be opened by pulling back on a blade protrusion with the index finger of either the left or right hand. Just look for “ambidextrous opening” in the description. These knives often combine ambidextrous opening with a frame lock or locking liner that many lefties find is easy-to-operate with just a little practice.

I am left handed and my EDC Kershaw is a Mini Mojo. It is very easy to carry in my left pocket and use one handed.

Tait,

Thanks for the reply. I actually emailed the Kershaw customer service twice via the link on their website and did not receive a response. I did read the FAQ and although there is some good info, there is no info on the pocket clip. When I do a search on their website based on product features only 3 models came up.
