Hi all. I'm new here and because there are literally 50 forums and sub-forums I wasn't really sure where to post this. I did a search and the threads I found that are relevant are from back in 2000. I was recently given a Becker BK2 as a gift by my brother. I was impressed as hell with it when i received it but now that i've seen what can be done with them as shown throughout this forum i want to make it my own. I've seen examples that have custom scales and that have been polished to a mirror finish. I was wondering if anyone knows of someone in or near Northern VA that might be able to customize the BK2 to my liking. I've seen where people have done the stripping and polishing on their own but i'm one of those unlucky individuals that has more money than time. I don't have much money so that ought to give you an idea of how much time i've got.

Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions on a vendor that might be able to help me out. I guess they don't have to be in VA because I could always ship the knife out. As long as you have real hand experience with a referal i'd much appreciate it.

Not sure of any in NOVA but I am sure someone will pop in and tell you what you want to hear. BUT why not just pick something small and modify it then keep going. Before you know it you should have what you have been wanting with out the cost of having someone else do it for you. Stripping the blade takes only about an hour, scales aren't that bad to find and no problem to install yourself. I like the Micarta Ka-Bar offers. They fit well and feel great. What all do you really want to do? most of what you described is like i said easy to get done yourself with minimal time invested. Sorry I couldn't really help on the maker info but I had to chime in.

Thanks for the response HAK. The stripping part looks easy enough. It's the mirror finish that I'd like to try to accomplish. That part looks time consuming and technically challenging. I've seen the micarta scales and I should have specified. Those look nice but I've really got a hankering for some custom scales. I've seen the ones made by someone here in the cocobolo variety. I've got a message into him but haven't heard back yet. And finally, i think i'd like to square up the spine so i can use the knife for firestick striking and maybe even some jimping (SP?). These things I definitely couldn't do without seriously screwing up the knife or my hand.

Just use a file and go slow on the spine work. Vise it and go to town, slow is good. As for the mirror polish, beats me but I am sure someone will chime in. There are few guys making scales and the best place to check is the Becker forum. If you are set on new scales touch the Grivory up with a soldering iron yourself and see how it come out.

Oh yeah... Welcome to the forum!
