I have been hesitating for quite some time to post this but I have gotton so upset that I have to relieve some stress here!

On October 15th 2012 I posted a thread and asked for a knife maker who would consider putting custom handles on my knew Enzo trapper blank. Jason Leclair, "The_cutting_edge" here on BF replied same day and we had a deal. I send him my blank and 120 Can$ including a sheath. The first emails were very quick and I had a good feeling. By the way, he lives 3 hours away from me!

Now to make a long story short, I still have neither received my knife, nor sheath nor 120 Can$ back from Jason and it is now almost 5 months. Initially he sounded very nice, informed me about a hunting trip which would delay the knife a bit, then he had to order different pins etc.

The last email I received from him was January 6, he appologized for the length of time this has taken and he seems to have good sounding excuses that may even be true (who lies about his dad passed away?).

I replied, sent another email Feb 7 asking for the knife, the last email I sent was March 1st saying: "Jason, any reply or news from you? Keeping the money and the blank? ..."

So, I gues I have lost 80 bucks for the blank + 120 bucks for service and some shipping. Well, what can I do other than making everybody else aware!!

Cheers

Hello Andy,

I'm sorry for your experience. It kind of leaves a bad taste in your mouth about knifemakers when this sort of thing happens. If you want to try getting a blank rehandled again, I know of several Calgary area knifemakers (honorable ones) who might be willing to take this on. Myself included, but only when it warms up outside:) Let me know if you need some contact info.

Regards,

Hugh (3/16th's)

Thanks Hugh and yes, I am still interested with this idea, just would have to get another Enzo blank. Will keep you in mind!

What a loser. Good morale to the story dont trust no one you dont meet personally. Hindsight unfortunately is always perfect vision.
As for jason leclair . An old army saying we had "sticky fingers arent sticky when you have no fingers"

Hey jason i have a knife id like you to look at too.Get back to me.

Oh yea btw PEOPLE SEARCH .com might assist you in finding the hidden location of our knifemaker jason.

Maybe Jason would like to respond this... I would like to know why you would take a man's hard earned and not complete the project. If true you sold your rep for $200

I've sent him an email. He has one week to contact you/me or make you whole.

I don't know if he had a craftsman membership when you started this, but he doesn't now.
Always best to only do business with paid members.
Transactions such as this by registered users is a bannable offense.

I have something positive to report about Jason. He contacted me today via email stating that my knife in finally finished and he asked for the shipping address. I am glad it seems this all finally works out. Waiting for the knife to arrive now...

The knife arrived back In calgary today. Jason put some beautiful ironwood handles on it and it came with a nicely done scabbard sheath. Overall good work! I am happy with the knife. It's a shame that it had taken a bumby road but all is good now!

Sorry to bump an old thread but does anyone know how to get a hold of this Jason Leclair? My sister paid him in full for a knife over a year ago, it was supposed to be a fathers day gift for my dad last year, and we have never received it. We've tried calling his number that he gave her but never get an answer, his web page is gone and no response to any emails. This guy seems like a complete scammer.

I am very sorry to hear of this Matpot, I looked and only had a single email interaction with him, years ago, but sent an email anyways about this matter. As an aspiring maker from the area this kind of reputation hurts all of us, especially as it was for a special occasion. I will keep my "ears" open for more information about this maker.

Goes to show - no more deals with this guy. A crook is a crook!

Sorry to hear this Matpot.

I remembered this thread from way back. I have lured but never felt need to post. Anyways this guy is back in business.

I can't comment nor will I bad mouth just won't give him any business given what other have posted about in the past. Posted this on kijiji.
