Knife Makers Stiddy

I did read the thread and still can't make any sense out of it other than it's a mini anvil.

Michael,
It is a stiddy, steady, cutler's anvil.
From the pictures and talking with David Curtiss who is making these little jewels, if you do folders, especially slipjoints, these just might be "the cat's meow" to meet your needs. I have been using a number of thing to do the pins on my slippies...bench block, 1-2-3 block in a vise, other surfaces.

I can't suggest you need something like this ( I can't tell you that my "Better Half" thnks I need one or more of these...she is very tolerant of my indulegences), that appears to be a really fine tool on your knifemakers bench.

I fully expect that for the price, and based on the "consultants" who had input, and after talking with David, if you feel better using Starrett tools, or Snap-On, then one of these things might just be in the same category.
I am betting the cost of a couple that they will be.....

Ok, John, I got it now, it is a small anvil but it's milled to fine tolerances!! I figured that's what it was but I didn't make the connection to folder making with it, now it makes sense!!! If I sell my rifle I'll be ordering one also! :p

this is very cool idea, about time. i saw a video of an English cutler making a pocket knife, using something he called a stiddy. whoa. it was wide and heavy enough for peinning pins and the rest of the assembly work.
so i made one from a piece of steel salvaged from a large coupling bar. it is probably not hard enough because it has many marks on the surface.
glad to see you guys have designed and built this handy tool.
your Stiddy is well thought out and the liner spreader is simply perfect for the job. i use wooden wedges and anything i can to adjust the liners. p-i-t-a.
thanks again.
wish i had some cash , i'd be glad to give this perfect Stiddy tool a try out.
