I'm looking for a vise that will hold a knife by the blade or the handle. I've looked at the vise that Pop's sells, as well as the one by Crescent Knife works from B.C. Canada. The Crescent knife vise is very nice, but $255.00 is a whole lota moola for the vise with the handle attachment.

Is there anything else out there that's ready-made and works well?

I've got an excellent made at home one. I can't send you pictures but I can give you basic information on it and if you give me your phone no. I can call you and answer your questions as you request. Send me an email I will send you the info and we can go from there. This is simplicity plus and just the greatest to use,. niro@telus.net Frank Niro

I picked this one up off ebay for $20. I asked for T-handle screws and he made them at no charge and he includes a nice peice of wooden stock to fit inside. It works extremely well. It is very simple but I can not nor do I have welding equipment.

i was informed by swede2207 that that vise is called the third hand. it was found in an issue of blade magazine. its great for beginners and even some of the other makers still use them. it was only a suggestion but it does work for me.

I got this on ebay the guy owns a machine shop and always has one for sale.Best vise I have ever owned and it was 58 bucks freight and all .

You can use a Jorgensen style clamp to hold the knife then throw that in a vise.

I prefer just clamping it down to the workbench with a slab of wood under it.
