Yes, but any attempt to post something more than on line long results in the timeout saying "The Web Server may be down, too busy, or experiencing other problems preventing it from responding to requests. You may wish to try again at a later time."

yea i have been getting errors while doing advanced searches the last few days

I have been looking at other drill presses also and might be leaning more towards a grizzly as i have had excellent results with their other products. Also, keep in mind that this list is for the 'knife making tools' not so much consumables, that's a totally different list i have made up and that list also has another $500 worth of belts in it as well. Yes i will be using kydex and plan on stealing the wifey's griddle that never gets used for heating the kydex. I will be using a paracord method that 3 river blades uses for attaching to clothing/belts. Epoxy will be West Systems Epoxy. I'll research more into sealing the wood also, thanks for that piece of input!! Final sharpening-i'm leaning more towards a powered benchtop model to get the initial sharpening done on the blades then mirror polish them with leather belts and stropping compound on the belt grinder.

This may seem obvious but I don't know if anyone has asked, do you have to have all 50 done for 2015 hunting season?
Surely they won't give away all 50 right away but more likely over a year or so right?
Maybe you only need to have 10 done for fall, 10 for winter, and so on.

he definitely wants 50 before hunting season, that's only a small amount of his customers

I got 6 done for christmas in 2 weeks so I've got faith you can pull this off... you might not, but you can, lol. if you are in a pinch and need any advice on how to make something work with limited tools drop me a PM. I went 20 years without half of the stuff you have on your list and just might be able to help you out of a pinch.

Mad, am I right in assuming that you presently work a full time job and you will be pulling this off at night and on weekends?

madupree, I wish you good luck & success. A lot of great insight is being in this thread, for free.
I still haven't taken an order for a knife, but I sell the knives I make.
Occasionally the knives turn out like I envisioned them before starting.
There are well over $10K in tools, supplies, & materials in my shop, and more that needs to be purchased.

have you dedicated yourself to a full flat grind? if not, you could grind all 50 blanks in one day ((maybe half a day)) and do it perfectly with very little practice and a carbide guide.

Yes it will have a full flat grind and I will be using carbide stops to keep the plunge line consistent

Can you elaborate on your process of getting a mirror polish with leather belts and stropping compound?

Yes you are correct

Well then, you've left out a major expense in your business plan, that being the cost of your marriage and don't forget to factor in the cost of child support if you have any children. :D

I can post CAD pics of the jig I have designed tomorrow

well, a wise warmonger once said ''if i had 8 hours to chop down a tree, i would spend six sharpening the axe''. there was a discussion on here once about putting 2 grinders with platens face to face. i believe it would work. i have seen a video with a child(literally)grinding hollow bevels between 2 wheels on a homemade set up. if i had an order for close to ten grand, and possibly much more all in the same design i would invest in two kmg's and attempt the two platens. i would pivot the faces towards eachother using an angle cube to make sure the angles are opposite but equal(level bench top). i would stick a small center finding bubble level on the top of my carbide guide and go to town. you could bolt one grinder down and use c-clamps at the edge of your bench on the other to make it adjustable for bringing the grinders together. when the order is finished you could always sell one or both grinders and recover 75% of their value. just a thought though. good luck, and wear your ppe.
