Knife Making

I started my research into knifemaking 7 years ago, hit files to steel five years ago, making abominations, drooling over pictures of shops, KMG's and Evenheats. Over the years, I acquired those things. It's taken me until recently to get to the point where I'm confident with my knives and I still don't call myself a maker. Everything I have done up to this point was a gift, I've done some commissions for friends and have charged barely to cover my cost.

As far as a kickstarter goes, if I would have had all the cash in the world five years ago, I still would have made abominations for a while, just with nicer equipment.

It's difficult to tell where you are at, or were at when you sold your tools. We're you selling at that time? Fully invested in good equipment?
If I were you, I would determine a long term goal of what you want to do and how bad you want to do it. Go from there and reacquire your tools and skill simultaneously. Or, hit the lotto!
Do you have any pictures of your work?

Brian,
I'm sorry if my post sounded wrong. I was trying to figure out what you were asking for.

You live in a state filled with makers. If you wanted to get back into knifemaking, I'm sure there are a lot of folks who would help.

What we don't know is what level you want to get back into. Do you just want to make a knife or two a month for fun, or make them at a semi-production level for income?

Some steel, sandpaper, and files would be gladly donated by some of us here if you just want to get back into it for fun.

I had seen that your first post was looking at a tricked out grinder for over $2000 with shipping, so it wasn't clear what level you wanted to get back at as well as how bad the money restrictions were.

Tell us a bit about what level your skills used to be and what type knives you made. Also, tell us how/if your disability will affect your knifemaking.

My skill level when I was making knives? I wish I had some pictures.I had all of the tools Bader B3 grinder, Mill and to much to list.Skill I could free hand grind any type of blade and well I'm not sure what to say.And my disability the only thing is I cant set a solid schedule I mite be sick 2 or 3 times a week and some times I go a month or longer and I'm just fine.I have a brain tumor that is beanie but gives me bad headaches. I have had half of it removed thats all they could get the rest is wrapped around things.

I dont want any handouts I do appreciate the offer I just want to make knives again.
Thanks for all of the comments and Ideas I take them to heart Thanks So Much

Ok, so that sounds like you know the basics, and can work when you feel good. Most of us have to take it easy when it is a bad day. Glad your condition is stable and hopefully won't progress.

Anybody near Mullin Texas have any help, shop visits, etc. to offer Brian?
