I was ask to make a knife for a raffle at a boating club. Finished the knife a little while ago. Made the marlin spike last week, but was somewhat stumped as to how to put it all together. This is the end product. I kind of like it , what do you all think?

Looks good in my eye. I know it will go over big at the boating club. Thanks for showing it to all of us. And have a great and blessed week-end. --------------

Mike, great work! the pin work on the knife handle is great, really gives it an unusually fronteir look, great shape too. Nice marlin spike, what were they used for?

Nice package.
I made one similar where the marlinespike and the knife were parallel. The sheath was leather, however.
First I made an oversize sheath blank, with a belt loop top. I stitched the keeper strap and the loop to the back next. Then I made a 1/4" wide welt the thickness and taper of the marlinespike, rolled the sheath, and cemented it in place inside the roll to make a pocket for the spike. I then set the knife between the layers and marked the cut for the sheath edge (allowing for the outside welt). I made the welt and cemented it in place (I use leather weld). After sanding the edge to size,I stitched the outside welt and the spike welt. The spike lay right along the knife spin, separated by the 1/4" welt.

Looks great. I was just wondering where you were on this. Great marlin spike. I use mine daily for everything from knots to cleaning and opening things.

I loved it, I didn't know that spike usage before, it sounds very useful. Sheath is great too..

Hey Mike,

That looks great! Someone will really appreciate that. What kind of steel did you use? Did you get your new forge finished?

Eric

Thanks for the positive reply. I forgot to add that this knife is for a salt water environment. cpm154, mycart, kydex. marine grade brass pins. the marlin spike (used for picking knots out of line) is made from SS stock from the local boat yard.

You sure made an excellent choice for the sheath material. Like Stacy, I made a leather sheath for a similar set, and never even thought of Kydex, and my sheath wasn't as perfected as Stacy's. It's great learning how you guys have solved this issue.

I really like your deeply curved marlinspike too; that strikes me as particularly useful. Knife ain't bad either! :D Your pin layout is a nice touch. This is a great combo, thanks for sharing.

Finishing up the red version.
