This is about the next knife you would buy, not some abstract "ideal" knife for the budget. For the sake of the thread, imagine the knife is readily available. Up to you if you're using retail or secondary market pricing. Which knives would you buy with with the following price limits (or pick and choose any combination). Pics are welcome:

  • $60
  • $100
  • $150
  • $220
  • $300
  • $600
  • $1000
  • $2000
  • Unlimited

In the $60 range, a Moki Fish Owl
In the $100 range a Buck 110 with upgraded blade steel.

Sorry, my interest in knives peters out much above $100. There's only so much money I'm willing to risk by carrying it around in the form of a pocket knife. Stuff happens to pocket knives.

$100—Spyderco Stretch Straightback
$150–Buck 112 Auto Elite (or maybe a 110)
$220—ProtechTR5 or Newport Tuxedo
$300—Slysz Bowie or CPK 6” UF
$600–XM-18 3” Wharnie or ZT 0600 (I know they’re less)
$1000 nada

If I had to spend 1k or more on a knife, something I object to for myself,
it would have to be a Shiro 111 in M390 with the double roller bearing pivot.

I could pick a knife in any price point, but right now im really craving a Benchmade 940 Osbourne with a stonewashed blade and micarta scales.

Honestly, I think I would get and Emerson super Roadhouse and send it over to Nathawut to do his Kwaiken conversion. That would be my grail right there.

Prices are going to be an estimate, because of conversions and Norway being expensive.

  • $60 - Rat 1
  • $100 - Manly Patriot/TOPS Mini Scandi
  • $150 - Delica in ZDP/Cold Steel Recon 1
  • $220 - 940
  • $300 - ZT 0640
  • $600 - Medford Dress Marauder
  • $1000 - Rockstead Higo II TI-DLC
  • $2000 - No idea.
  • Unlimited - Stan Wilson NFF/Basically any Fisk Bowie. No idea what either go for.

At the moment
  • $60 - Buck 112 Slim Ranger Pro Green Micarta
  • $100 - GEC Northfield #92 Eureka Jack Goldenrod Camel Bone
  • $150 - BM Bugout in black
  • $220 - PM2 in M390
  • $300 - CPK EDC2
  • $600 - CRK 21 Dark Micarta Inlay (maybe a 31?)
  • $1000 - Shirogorov Hati R
  • $2000 - I wouldn’t spend 2K on a knife
  • Unlimited - Well... all of them I suppose. ;)

  • Anything past $150 would be put toward an AR15 or handgun(s) and ammo. $150 is about my limit on a knife. Gotta stock up for that zombie apocalypse ya know.

I refuse to spend more than $450 for any knife (which is the amount I'd pay for a gun) and I have more than enough $ to buy any knife at any cost that I want to buy.

$0 to 100 -- Byrd Cara Cara2 Emerson just released. $25 to me under Spyderco's OpFocus program. Want to pair it w/a standard Cars Cara 2 in my collection. Purchase pending.

$100 to 150 --The pending Spyderco Siren - $120 to me under Spyderco's OpFocus Program.

$150 to 220 -- Just bought a Protect Strider SnG Auto for $200 to add to my collection of Protech autos.

$220 to 300 -- Just bought a new plain edge Spyderco Renegade (C23GP) for just under $300 to complete my collection of vintage Renegade variations.

$300 to 450 -- Spyderco Kris and a ZT 045CFM390BLU are on the list; seen some offered in this range but I'd rather pay less for them. Willing 2 wait for them

By way of comparison, I just bought a used Benelli MP95E Olympic 22 competition pistol for $850 to add to my small collection of Olympic 22 pistols; pickup pending in a few days. No way I'd pay that much for any knife.

I think...I don't think I would speed more then $500 for a knife though. Even when I have, I never used them. $300 seems to be the line of me actually using them or not.
