Manufacturer names are good enough for me. Today I'm wearing my D2 Griptilian, yesterday I wore my Spyderco Ronin. When I say this, everyone knows exactly what I am talking about. I didn't wear "The Vein Ripper" yesterday, and "Grippy Bill" today.
I stopped naming things before I became a teen-ager. Giving an inanimate object a personal name is a bit juvenile IMO - a lot like naming a doll. Inanimate objects don't have personalities, don't have interests, just plain don't care. I think Danbo hit it on the head.
My brother (2 years younger than me) used to name things up until recently (his cars, bike, even his frisbie golf disks) - although to his credit it's been years since I've heard him refer to something by a "personal name". In the past, I tried hard not to laugh too much in his face. To my knowledge, even he hasn't named the knives I've given him.
