preferably not all mall ninja like NO BLACK BLADE
can be taken anywhere legal
can bladeforums help me find my knfe im looking for?

For a fixed blade of your specifications i would look at a becker necker. I have never owned one but have read many great things about it and it is only 30 bucks but is worth its weight in gold:thumbup:

Might want to look at a Spyderco Swick. Blade is a bit smaller than what you specified, but it's dead on with everything else.

The Cold Steel Pendleton hunter is IMHO an excellent small blade for the price. 3-1/2" blade with a nice contoured kraton handle that fills even my ham hands. It comes with a less than spectacular although adequate kydex sheath, and can be had from ultimate outdoors for less than $36.00. BTW the blade steel is Aus-8 which isn't the ferrari of blade steels but perfectly adequate in most respects. It is a drop point with lots of belly so "sheeple" should be just fine with it.

can i hold any of these for a lot of time comfortably? also do they hold an edge very good? i will use itfor a lot of camping tasks because i am a boyscout and thats what i do.

The Bark River Mountaineer is one of the most comfortable fixed-bladed knives I've held recently.

Something to check before you buy, in most areas the BSA does not allow scouts to carry sheath knives / fixed blade knives. You may be able to carry it on camping trips with your local Troop, but it may not be allowed at District, Regional, and National activities. (I worked at Philmont for ten years.)

Still looking for a fixed blade? Have you seen the Ghrohmann knives? Very unique style, fixed blade but small, comfortable, and traditional. AG Russell sells them, as do many other stores. I especially like the #1 and #2.

Best Wishes,
Bob

there is no such knife that can be taken anywhere legal...
check out sog field pup (but it has 4" blade)
camillus cuda edc for folding knives

spyderco native, mini manix, or para military would do fine.

as well as bm mini skirmish for another folder.

for fixed... you could look at a rat-3. I know it has a black blade; but, it isn't too mall ninja like. in fact, I find models like the becker necker to be too mall ninja for my tastes.

how about the bm outbounder? nice fixed blade there.
as well as the bm bird and trout.

A Grohmann no. 1 would fit your specifications. You can check out their website here: http://www.grohmannknives.com/pages/outdoor.html

The no. 1 (and the no. 2) is available in either a standard (sabre-style) grind or a flat grind, both of which are good for general camping and outdoors work. The no. 1 has a very comfortable handle, is unthreatening in appearance (heck, it's a work of art!), and it comes with a leather belt sheath. You may want to check out the no. 3 if you're looking for a blade with a retention strap on the sheath. Speaking personally, I've carried a no. 1 during a number of excursions, and I've always found it up to the required tasks.

Best of luck with your decision,

- Mike

i said fixed blade and im pretty positive i want a skinner but what kind? what brand?

Bark River. The ELK (essential little knife) is a great EDC fixed blade. Small, not scary, very useful. It's not a skinner, though, it's a general utility blade shape. You may also like the Mini-Canadian (from Bark River as well), although the blade is a little shorter. I have a Mikro-Canadian, a little tiny skinner with about 1.5" - 2" of blade, which makes a super little pocket carry fixed blade, although I actually stick it on my belt most of the time to be within the law.

As for a skinner, My next fixed blade is going to be just that (inpreparation for next year's deer season): a Wolf River, by Bark River Knife & Tool.

Check out Gene Ingram's knives. He makes a whole range of sizes, from choppers all the way down to pocket-sized fixed blades, mostly in the $150 range. I'd like to get one of his pocket fixed blades, but my priorities are currently elsewhere (need a new Schatt & Morgan  ).

Peace.
