Besides my kitchen cutlery, I'm fairly new to knifes - pocketknives specifically. Had several pocketknives when I was a kid but that was a long time ago. Anything over 40 years ago doesn't count, right?

About fifteen years ago I won a SOG pocketknife as a door prize at an Friends of the NRA raffle. It was certainly better than nothing but I sure wanted that Kimber 1911 instead. A few years ago I picked up a Doug Ritter RSK on a whim. I like it but it sure does open easily and it's very sharp. I'm not used to handling such a knife so it does not see much use. Maybe some day...

A close friend gifted me his Vietnam era Ka-Bar after I gave him a laptop computer I had laying around. He asked if I would take a look at his broken laptop and it was indeed too far gone to repair so I gave him mine. I was curious about the Ka-Bar and a google search brought me here.

Been poking around ever since and it has piqued my interest. So much so that I just purchased a Case Mini Copperlock CV from CollectorKnifes. It's a bit more traditional and hopefully I'll be able to open it easily enough. Yeah, I bite my nails. Terrible habit but why quit now.

Sorry about the rambling, just wanted to say thanks for all the information. It's been fun learning about sharp things. Since they are much less expensive than guns, maybe I'll have a new item to collect. :D

Here's a picture of my humble "collection" of pocketknives as of today.

Welcome... I too picked up a bunch of info here through Google searches over the years, and finally joined the community about a month ago... Knives are certainly cheaper then guns for the most part, though there are some $1000+ models out there! Still cheaper then some $5000+ custom bang-bangs though...

Thanks.

Forget guns, many of the knives I've been looking at are easily cheaper than the ammo I would go through in one day. For example, the Case I just purchased today costs about the same as 120 rounds of cheapo .38 Special. That would last about half an hour of slow fire around here. lol

Welcome aboard :).

And your collection is looking fine. I feel like many people get caught up in the rush to get a big collection. If thats your thing, go for it, just don't feel like you "need" to do it. I've been around here for a while, and only have two regular production folders (with clips anyway, I do have a few other random folders like my svord peasants, opinel, and a SAK), and I feel just fine about it :).

Also, don't feel restricted to "pocketknives", as its just as easy to get into kitchen knives, fixed blades, etc.

Welcome! Now use the crap out of that Griptilian. It can handle whatever you toss at it, believe me. :D

Gee, a Ritter RSK Grip, nice way to start a collection!

If you hang around here much, it's surely be the first of many! ;)

Thanks! I know what you're saying about how people get caught up in trying to build a collection. Not that there is peer pressure or anything, but speaking from past experience, once I get interested in something collections just happen. I'll wake up one day and say where did all these come from? Ask my wife about cast iron cookware for example.

I recognize the symptoms. lol

One difference in gun and knife collecting. For some reason people have trouble using a $400+ knife but nobody has a problem fouling the action of a 2k AR.

Welcome, there is sooo much info on this forum it is mind boggling. I have been around for a few months and am still discovering the many sub forums
