I just finished my third knife. It's from Admiral's closeout 1084. I HT'ed it to approximately 60 RC.

Here's the specs:

Steel type: 1084
Handle Material: Bullet Wood
Pin Material: 1/8" brass and 3/16" brass
Blade length: 5-1/4"
Total length: 10"

I also did a freehand convex grind, so it's a beefy knife, and I cracked the wood after it was already epoxied and peened, so I just epoxied it back on.

Cool. I like the design, Mike. I might have put a pin in the middle too but, it looks fine with just the two. Good job and nice steak patina!

Great Job Mike! Your doing great for someone in your age group!

I like the overall design of your knives, but may I point out some improvement oppurtunity's...

I think you should challenge yourself with a little more advanced blade design. Your shard, triangular design is nice but dont be afraid to push your envelope. The belly needs to be rounded and advance the curve to the point similar to a loveless drop point.

Make a file guide and file in your plunge cuts.

Next the fitment of your handles is a little dirty. one of the last steps is cleaning the spine by sanding the from the point to the butt. also use a paper towl or leather and clamp the front of the handle down while the epoxy dries.

The placement of the butt pinn is a little to close to the butt. move it 3/8" - 1/2" inboard.

The "waist" of your handle is to small, move the thumb ramp concave foreward on the blade 3/16" - 1/4" and the finger guard should be about 1" - 1.25" around (about the size of a 20oz pop cap)

I see lots of potential there Mike. give me a call next weekend weather permitting I'll be forging, come on over and we'll forge ya a blade, I got the steel W1 or leaf spring special 5160...

Thanks for the encouragement, Jason. If I did the design again, I would move both pins in more, I didn't realize how far out they were. The waist also should probably be a little bigger, but it is pretty comfortable as it is.
I'll try to call you on Friday or Saturday. So far it looks like Saturday might be stormy, but Sunday might be just cloudy.

pretty cool mike, i want to cut something with it. i would offer advice but i dont know, im a beginner too.

I think that deserves an Atta boy! I can see the improvements. Good job Mike!

Nice job! Looks close to an old school guardless coffin handle.
