Knife nuts and laws

Hi all,
Today i was thinking about the knife laws we have here in Italy:as in many other places you cannot carry a knife unless you have a reason to do it. Self defense is not a valid reason , and the old "i use it to eat my apple"will not do.
As many of you fellow forumites i enjoy owning knifes and i enjoy to carry them , even for no more serious reason than the fact that i bought a knife and it's mine , which, from a strict point of wiew, makes me a criminal .So here i am : an uncensored, productive, otherwise law abiding citizen involved in an illegal behaviour ; if a LEO should find a knife on me i will be in great trouble.
I think i am not alone in this kind of strange dichotomy : probably the world is full of "armchair crimials"that are no guilty of other than being knife nuts........

Sadly, carrying a knife is considered by most folks as the mark of a person with violence on his mind. Never mind that you can't open mail, peel an apple, or prepare dinner without one.

In the place where I work, the 'carrying of weapons' is a major infraction that could result in dismissal. For this reason, I leave all my fixed blades and 'dangerous-looking' knives at home and carry small folders (3" or smaller blades). If I am stopped and searched, I will claim that it is a 'pocket knife'.

In my country (and I think its the same the world over), what constitutes a 'dangerous weapon' is left to the interpretation of the LE officer.

Here in the philippines, you can only carry a knife with a blade up to 3" long. More than that you should be ready to explain why you're carrying, or be ready to give away your knife

There's actually a law here, i even heard it from a police once but i don't know if it's true or implemented. You can be jailed for a number of years equivalent to the length of the blade you're carying. So for a 5" knife, you'll get 5 years in jail. Funny, since in the countryside people can carry openly a jungle bolo or machete.

As for me, I always carry (balisong or folder), better safe than sorry.
