Knife out of chainsaw blade?

Okay I was out in the shop today and I am new to the blade smithing I am 50 my father has a blacksmith shop and have hammered steel here and there so like a old guy I used to know once said "I don't know much but I know stuff"
I have an old chainsaw bar NOT chain and cut a piece off and threw it in my forge and heat it up and quenched it and put it in the vice and well it was a SOB to snap here is an pic of the grain structure.
To me it looks like it has a mild steel coating san mia chainsaw?

If thats a Stihl bar then yes it has 3 layers. All the layers are the same sort of stainless material. The pieces are cut out and the layers are placed in a welding press and welded into a complete assembly. The bar is then induction hardened so the outer layer is quite durable. I don't think this type of layered bar would be suitable to make a decent blade.

I am not sure the brand it was painted green and is about 3 feet long it's an old blade just by the shape (oblong) I will take some pictures of it tomorrow when I am back out in the shop. This was something that was in the old shop in the house i am now in and thought I could use.

I'm an outsider to forging but I gather that it is difficult to forge weld small pieces together like chainsaw links. I've seen them done in canoe fashion. I don't know why chainsaw chain material itself wouldn't be suitable if you could manage to get a good billet out of it.
