knife pack

I was thinking of the old rat pack. I don't like my knives riding as low as the molle attachment make it ride. Where do you get the old rat pack and how does it attach to the knife and belt? From the picture you posted it doesn't show the molle sheath attachment so how does the system attach?

If you are interested in the old version you can still purchase it here:

They also just came out with a SWEET sheath set up for the Junglas with 2 external pouches.

That's what we are waiting on. I was scribbling this morning at work on a notepad what I think is going to go into those two pouches. I think the first run is going to be depleted rather quickly. :D

I've been doing the same thing Don!:D I've been looking at the photos of the inside and trying to figure out just what tins/containers/Aloksaks would fit inside and where. Just what kind of tools, gear, and supplies I need in mine. I can't wait to pair up a couple of these together for a real bad a** E/E, Bug Out Kit!
I'm with Tony, I'd love to get 2 sets of them if the funds allow. I can't wait to see all the great photo threads, and maybe a good contest, of what everyone comes up with.

*So is it the smaller pack that only has the external pouch with the other side MOLLE? Does the large pack not have the external pocket?

Correct.

That external pocket on the smaller pouch seems to cry out for a Lensatic Compass, don't you think? :D

The thing is like a large, modular taco pouch with a baldric, what's not to like? :D

It looks like one of the Tactical Tailor E&E Pouches will mate with the other side of it, too.

here's mine with a 4 installed...

From that picture it looks like the zipper only goes on three sides of the pack? If that is the case I can see running the 550 cord loop through the velcro strap to keep it from unzipping. So is this the old rat pack that you posted a picture of?

Guys I am sorry it is taking so long to get the new ones in from Colombia. But we have already started the ball rolling on fixing this delay in the future. The new versions (which will blow away the old version currently sold by Lost Mountain) are due here in less than three weeks. Meanwhile we have started a local sewing shop to have all of our goods sewn in USA including the new version of this pack currently being made in Colombia. The current situation with Colombia was a forced situation to find a vendor when we ran into earlier problems with the old version. The new version will totally conceal the HEST, ESESE 3 or Izula knives without a pommel sticking out of the pack. I will post up here on the forum as soon as they are close to landing. Mike

Better to have it slower and right than fast and sub-par. :D

You should be proud, doing something slower and right in this world is a very rare thing indeed.

So.....the old version zips on three sides and open on top so the knife handle will stick out?

and.....the new version zips all the way around and the knife is contained inside?

The new version zip all the way up. If you are carrying a HEST, ESEE 3 or Izula, Izula II they will all totally conceal with the case zipped all the way closed. If you carry anything bigger then the pommel will stick out the top a bit and the case will not zip all the way closed. But the case is designed so nothing can come out of the case even with the case only zipped partially closed. The new version also have been made in two separate cases to allow greater versatility for carry options. You can carry them separately or MOLLE them together and have a 'carry the kitchen sink' system.

Can't wait for more pics, definitely gonna have to snag one (if not both) of them up.

Thanks for the update Mike, it sounds like they just might be here in time to be a Christmas gift to myself :)

I hope you have quite a few of them coming, it sounds like they will be very popular and they will be flying off the shelves!

there's a velcro strap at the top to cover the zipper and keep the pack from opening even if the zipper snags and opens partially. It's a pretty secure setup.

Yes, the old packs were built like a brick $hithouse. Zipped across the bottom and along one side with the velcro flap to secure it.

Looking forward to see the reports on the new pack kits when they come out.

Wow, thanks Mike for the updates on the new kits! I truly cannot wait to get a couple of these for a true "war bag" combo.:D I can't wait to see the pics!!!
