A new model from the creative mind of Mike Stewart.

Designed with our troops in the sandbox in mind, it was sent to me to see how useful it is in the woods.

A good looking knife, light for its size and fast in hand, it seems to be a well balance package.

Mine is the standard version, but it’s also available with a single quillian guard, which would be my choice (and odds are that might change on mine ;) ).

High carbon steel (50-100B, one of my favorites) at around 58Rc, and being .175” thick it’s right up my alley.

More photos and a review to follow soon.

Not my kinda knife Mike but I guess it would be a very usefull tool for a combat soldier, I'll be interested to hear how you get on with it !!!

Looks like a chute knife with a longer blade. I'm sure it would be a welcome addition to a soldiers kit.

What's the blade length?

These are the posted specs:
Overall Length: 11.2 Inches
Blade Length: 6.2 Inches
Blade Steel: 50-100B @ 58rc
Blade Thickness:.175 Inch
Weight: 8 Ounces

I will verify for my review.

A blade shot.

Big Mike,

That's a good looking chute knife for sure! Did you pre-order your custom kukhri yet?

I like the blade shape on it, but for some reason the handle color doesn't seem to go with the blade shape. Maybe it is just the reflection-look on the handle.

Although I look forward to a review on it sometime!

Yeah, it is certainly a chute-style of knife which I like very much. I like the full wrap around handle and small guard on that one. Not in love with the swedge on the blade though although that is common to chute-style knives. I'm interested to see how well you like it for the woods. Thanks for the specs. It is bigger than I thought. From the first picture I would have guessed a blade length of 5".

Looks like an upgrade for the Fallkniven S1 (probably a few others to). Knowing the build and design quality of Barkies i'm looking for ward to seeing the review.

I'm with you on the single quillian guard.

A compact Bowie like that can help a man walk with a little more confidence.

Natural Male Enhancement?

Here’s an in-hand shot showing the Smoke Jumper in my large hand.

Plenty roomy and not overly contoured, the handle works right for me.

I find knives like this one a sort of middle of the road.....not good at chopping.....and could be smaller for all other tasks....

I've been looking at those. They're certainly good-looking knives. Probably a good utility knife, without the top guard. Definitely a good design for a "fighter".

Here’s a comparison shot with the Bark River knife this new Smoke Jumper reminds me of the most,

…. The River’s Edge camp knife.

Very similar in feel,
…the Smoke Jumper is well balance, and feels fast and light for a knife of this size,
…much like the River’s Edge.

They both feature handles that span a full five inches,
plenty roomy in a variety of grips.

I know the blades have different shapes, but the nature of the cutting edge is very similar,
both have a good amount of belly that is balanced with a nice section of straight edge.

There is no doubt in my mind that the “Jumper” is a fine knife for survival and camp use, the question is how will it function in the woods?

Is it too small to chop, will that long swedge be a problem for the baton, is the long stylized blade and large choil too much of a hindrance when it comes to bushcraft type chores; these are questions that I will consider over the next few days, only field time can truly tell the whole story.

Great comparison shot Big Mike. I wish you didn't post that River's edge because I like that one a lot. I'm torn, because I like the wider blade, longer length, larger (wider) handle and admit to enjoying the visuals of the coolness of the clip on the Jumper. But I like the lack of swedge and single guard on the River's edge.

If Bark River could marry these two blades you just might have a perfect mid-sized blade with full wrap around handle. A perfect choice for winter use because of the wrap around handle blade and longer length more optimized for wood processing.

I can see a time in the very near future that my Smoke Jumper might loose the top quillian and large choil. ;)

I think those mods would make this knife more suited for my style of usage.

But I will have to give it a fair test in the as delivered state before I seriously consider taking it to the grinder.

That said, I think this blade with a longer cutting edge and a slight recurve will look even meaner then it does now.
