Haven't posted any pics here for a long time, but I just finished a matched set (Father and Son) and I'm SO happy to have it the heck out of my shop that I decided to post pics in celebration:D

CPM 154 sand blasted finish, fileworked
Red Morrel Burl scales N/S and mosaic pins
lanyard beads are of the same handle material

Been tryin hard for better pics lately, and I'm certainly not a photographer but they are coming around slowly. okay VERY slowly:D
Hope you like,
Matt Doyle

Those are nice! This a new style for you?
Those tiny two pins set them off nicely.

Great job, Matt. I like those sheaths! I know exactly how you feel about being glad to get something out of your shop.

super job i love the looks. what grid did you use sandblasting?

Lovely set of knives! I love that wood, thought it was ironwood there for a second. I may have to add some of that to the ole handle collection.

Thank you very much guys for the compliments.

Tom-Good to hear from you Buddy. Actually the profile was the customer's request. I just kinda added the shape of the front of the scales to look right with my stamp. The pins are 1/16" N/S, I really like them also.

Nathan- Thanks. I hope I never see them again. I had absolutely nothing but problems the entire time. From breaking off the beak of one of the scales, to redoing one set of scales after it was on the knife because it split through the middle, to my dog eating one of the finished sheaths (Rest assured this only SOUNDS funny!:D) to screwing up the sandblast finish during final sharpening....Oh well, on to somethin else.

Vern-I'm sorry I don't know what grit it was. I'll find out for ya.

Will- email me and I can put you on some caps. Blocks or scales are impossible to find.

Thanks again to everyone:thumbup:.

Very nice knives and sheaths! I don't recall seeing that wood before, but I love it. Is it stabilized?

Paul,
It is my very favorite wood. Not at all user friendly, but well worth the effort. I had to buy a whole cap from a burl, cut it up into blocks and then sent it out for stabilization. All the Australian Burls are beautiful, but in my experience they are all pretty finicky. This includes Corrugata, Red Mallee, Brown Mallee, Vasticola, and of course the Red Morrel I used here. All very dense, will burn very quickly, hard to remove all of the scratches, and even after stabilization they will warp almost while you watch them if you piss with them too long before you attach the scales to your blade. Also I have found that all of these woods REQUIRE a sealer (I use Deft sanding sealer from Lowes) to minimize oxidation, while working with them. I also wear latex gloves to keep sweat out of the pores of the wood prior to the sealer.

Very impressive! I really like the pattern of that filework, and you executed it beautifully. Thanks for showing us.
