So I've been threatening to get back out into the stcks for a while now and I was finally about to combine some of my hobbies - camping, knives and photography!

Apologies for the repetition in subject matter but I only have two knives... if you'd like to send me some more knives so I can mix things up please feel free!

And now to the arty stuff, for lovers of fine Pron.

I've got more if you'd like to see them. I'll stop for the time being lest I get pulled up for spamming!

Those are excellent photos. I especially like how you capture the rich colors of whatever the knife is laying against/stabbed into, such as the moss.

The next step is to buy more knives so you can diversify your photos some more:D Those two fixed blades are lookin' a bit lonely;)

Great photos! I'm sure you told us in your other thread, but what camera are you using? Is it a small and compact digital SLR, or something even smaller? How long were you out there for? just the day?

Haha neither compact nor small! I took my whole camera bag since I was car camping but only used one lens. Those pics were taken with a Canon 50D and Sigma 30mm 1.4.

Actually the weight and bulk question has me thinking about other options for when I go hiking.

Swweeet pics!
Nice usage of the focus depth (or whatever it's called in english )

Nice picture and nice camera. Canon 50D is very nice piece. Magnesium body... Makes me envy...

I hear you. I'm after a Bravo 1 next preferably with a natural handle like Desert Ironwood. Black synthetic materials are cool and all but hardly compliment the landscape I think. Aesthetically, I think the Bravo 1 is one of the best looking production knives around. Plus its build like a tank so I feel it will stand up to everything I can throw at it.

+1 on the F1! I've just been splitting wood all evening with mine and as soon as the first knife comes on the screen what d'ya know, my favorite knife!
Great pics,
thanks man.

I'm looking for a nice compact, not too expensive camera, able to take good resolution shots, so when I finally get out, I'll be able to take some nice photos.

I love my Bravo 1. Just got it a couple of weeks ago, so its only use has been a bit of paper and paracord, and shaving some wood of a broom handle, but I got the matte black canvas micarta. If I get enough money, I may consider getting a Gunny, with orange G10.
But it sure is a tank, and the convex edge is just great. I also don't mind the thumbramp, its growing on me, plus for my hands, its not in an uncomfortable position. Are you thinking of getting a rampless one or not?
for me the ramp is one of the things I like about it, adds to its look.

Great photo's. I used to be a bit of a photographer myself. I fact I was as addicted to photography as I am to edged implements now. Your pictures make me want to start again. I'm also impressed by how good the Recon Scout looks. I've had the Trailmaster for years so I never bought the Scout because it's really just a 2" shorter Trailmaster.
But now I might have to get one after all.

You have a Bravo 1?!?! Which company did you order it through? I've been looking at knivesshipfree.com but am dreading the whole customs debarcle. The thumb ramp - a question for the ages. I am completely ambivolent about it really. I won't ever need it I don't think and yet I feel I won't be getting a "real" Bravo 1 unless it has one... Glad to here the thumb ramp is growing on you though.

For the camera I'd go something like a Canon G11, I hear from on the Canon forums that the G series is nearly as good as an slr! Of course that might be outside of "not too expensive" because it's different for everyone. You could probably pick one up for a $550AUD.

Or if you want to jump into the slr range a 500D would be a great compact and light slr. Of course most of the weight comes from the lens so I can't help you there... :(

It seems I have led a similar path. It has been too long since I got out with the camera and I realised how much I'd missed it immediately once I got back into the swing of things and doing some PS work on the computer back at home gave me a great deal of joy at seeing the work come together.

On the recon scout - you won't regret the purchase. It's a such a beast and surprisingly lightweight for such a thick knife. I have been thinking about getting a Trail Master actually so maybe we can both complete the range and report back?

I got mine through Knivesshipfree.com. Customs wasn't a problem. Can I just ask what concerns did you have? I guess I was a bit worried about the whole "its a knife thing" but its not double edged, doesn't look double edged, and is not an auto, assisted, OTF etc, so it was all good.

I did look at other companies like cystal falls trading co, and a few other ones, which had the Bravo 1 at the cheaper price, but they then wanted to charge around 30 - 50 bucks shipping, or more. So it all came to around the same price, and Knifesshipfree was in the end about 3 dollars more expensive I think, but that did include shipping. Plus I had heard many great things about KSF, yet not much on the other sites. But I got mine for I think cost about 200 AUD, and that was after all the 3% paypal fees and shipping.

I'll be writing a review soon, well I kind of already have written it, but don't hae any pictures, and need to add things to it.
About the thumbramp, I'm not actually sure how to use it to strike a firesteel:confused:

I did see an interesting thing on Bark Rivers website, they now apparently offer three types of bravo 1's, with thumbramp (standard), no thumbramp, and the no thumbramp, with a full height convex grind, so it would be like your F1, but without that bit of "saber grind" to it that the normal B1 has.

I'll give that Cannon camera that you suggested a look, it is a bit expensive, but, I'd rather spend 4-500 on a nice camera, then on a 200 dollar one that lacks something that I would want or will need replacing. Of course I have seen some great 200 dollar ones.

Excellent news that KSF worked fine for you, how long did it take to ship? I guess I just don't like using overseas sellers because of the prohibitive shipping, along with some horror stories where equipment seems to just sit around at customers waiting for some public servant to misinterpret their own policies. I know this mostly relates to folders but when you are spending so much on getting a knife I like to know its going to arrive.

Cameras are like knives in many ways, you always want another even though you have perfectly serviceable gear already! If I can lend any advice it would be to work out what you intend using it for and accept that you are not going to have everything. Cost, weight, size, functionality and performance all come at a compromise from something else on the list.

I didn't know about the full flat grind Bravo's. Thanks for the heads up!
