Knife Porn and Photography (warning lots of photos!)

Ahhhh yes.... nothing sweeter than an opportunity to do a little enabling.....

You mean something like this?? :D

Or maybe another F1 to complete the set??

Yes. Yes something precisely like that. Do you know anywhere that still stocks the nice handles? KSF only has a handful of different natural wood Bravos and I feel like everyone (like you,) snapped them up immediately. Any idea on when more will become available, or am I best speaking directly with KSF or BRKT?

Excellent news that KSF worked fine for you, how long did it take to ship? I guess I just don't like using overseas sellers because of the prohibitive shipping, along with some horror stories where equipment seems to just sit around at customers waiting for some public servant to misinterpret their own policies. I know this mostly relates to folders but when you are spending so much on getting a knife I like to know its going to arrive.

Cameras are like knives in many ways, you always want another even though you have perfectly serviceable gear already! If I can lend any advice it would be to work out what you intend using it for and accept that you are not going to have everything. Cost, weight, size, functionality and performance all come at a compromise from something else on the list.

I didn't know about the full flat grind Bravo's. Thanks for the heads up!

Do you mean full height convex grind? I also just realised that you can't get the full height convex with desert ironwood handles, according to BRKT's site. Still email KSF, who I think are able to do a bit of custom ordering with Bark River.

here's some pics from the BRKT site, to show the difference

I placed my order on the 29/4 and got it on the 6/5, so I was suprised at the fast shipping.
I was able to get it from an Australia dealer, Ron @ Urban Conquest, he asks 210 for them, maybe more for wood handles, but KSF had them in stock so I got it from them.
I know what you mean regarding the money thing, it was alot for me, as I don't have heaps of bucks to throw around, and the F1 was almost 100 bucks cheaper, but now that I have got it in my hand, I don't regret it at all.

What do you use to sharpen your convex edged knives? I didn't include a strop in my KSF order, but did buy some compound, as I was going to be clever and make a strop, but I am just going to buy one from them. So if you don't have one, maybe look at the double sided strop and compound (bark river compound), it is a bit expensive at almost 50 bucks though. Or the strop on its own is like 25 bucks I think.

Thanks for the tip with the camera, I guess anything with like 10 - 12 megapixels would take decent shots, and as long as it has some features like macro, and able to adjust ISO and other things, then it should be good for me.

Wow that's fast!

I was intending to get a a strop and black and green compound from KSF if I went through them. I don't have a strop so I can't really sharpen the F1 that way I'd like at the moment. Tried to make a strop myself and couldn't find anywhere that sold leather in the small size I needed. It was either scraps of crap of enough leather for a whole couch! Very frustrating. And in a country with cows practically coming out of the woodwork!

Go to the Bark River forum over on Knife Forums. There is a 2010 Production Schedule there that will tell you if another run of Bravo's is in the works.

Fortunately, the Bravo 1 is one of their best sellers and they often do more than one run a year of this model.

If they are upcoming on the schedule, contact any of the BRKT distributors (KSF, McKnight Cutlery, DLT Trading, etc. etc.) and pre-order with your choice of handle material, pins, liners, spacrs, etc.

Or, just watch the schedule, and when the knives are released, watch the distributor sites, and if you see something you like, snap it up johnny on the spot. The pre-order will guarantee you get what you want.

One suggestion, if you are going to use the knife for hard use, I recommend staying away from the turquoise spacers. They are nice looking but crack easily. Great for a slicer, not so much for a beater. Go with some solid DIB or DI slabs and you will have a tough knife.

Here is my Gunny in solid DIB for an idea how it would look on a Bravo 1.

Hey thanks Dag-bagbit! Did you see just a little further down the list?

BRAVO-III!! That thing will be a beast.

On the spacers, I was going to give them a miss anyway because it would cease to become a knife that I'd feel comfortable taking out for use. I don't buy knives (yet) that are just for show and dropping $250+ on a knife that I won't dare get scratches on would be particularly difficult explaining to my girlfriend ;)

The Bravo III is a very much anticipated knife by many of the BRKT crowd.

I have a Bravo II that is plenty of knife for me, so I'm not sure if I'll pick up a Bravo III or not.

Maybe a nice one in DIB for the 'ol collection :D:thumbup:
