5FD38F28-A7DF-49C8-A269-60E87FBDBFED.jpeg I sent a knife to a buyer here on the forum and when he received the priority box it came in a we care bag. No knife. The knife is a Zero Tolerance ZT0770CFM4 with the serial number 0661. If you happen to see it for sale somewhere please let me know. I did use packaging tape on the box. Now to start a claim.

we care bag is what they put your mail in when they send the remains of it back after it gets trashed/destroyed/etc.
I’ve gotten shedded, dirty, damaged mail in the “we care” envelope and wonder who came up with that.

It looks like they didn’t care about the mail at all — except to finally deliver it after it was mangled and lost for months.

Any pics of the box from the buyer? I tape the knife to the inside of the box so that you will have to rip the box apart to get the knife out.

I might start doing that. Great idea.

I have only had a few issues with USPS that seemed super shady. Always report it and keep at it if they reject a claim once or twice. They need to know if a carrier is messing around. The only knife I lost was a MORA in a flimsy bubble envelope that arrived empty... $20 is easier to deal with than $200+ but frustrating nonetheless. I've been lucky and my issues were with cheap items. I had a claim for $35 that I kept filing till I got my $35 though. Screw them if a carrier has sticky fingers.

Tried to file a claim but my iPad can’t select some pulldowns for the claim. This a become a royal pain in the arse.

I also tape a packing slip to the knife in the hope that if the box is destroyed the knife can still be identified and the destination still known.

Not sure this is even helping as I understand you did tape the box, however, I am going to say it anyway -

With priority mail, you get free packing supplies. Being that is the case, I utilize said supplies liberally.

When I send a small priority box, I tape around the box in the middle a good two times. After, I tape along the entire edge of the box as well, twice. The box is literally a fortress of tape at this point not counting the peel and press closure and the box itself.

I have never, in...150ish transactions? Had a box come up vandalized. It would take such deliberate effort to enter one of my packages, I doubt many would be so bold.

It also makes my claim process easier, I would imagine. I take pictures prior to shipping while I am at the post office which illustrate my effort.

Also, it's a damn shame that this happened to you. It may be of little comfort, but at least it was only a hundred or so. You'll get at least a third of that back from the included insurance alone.

I tend to agree... I have only had issues with packages sent TO ME. I ship flat rate and tape the hell out of the boxes as-if the peel-and-stick on the boxes is worthless. It probably is ok, but I tape all around and also make sure the knife is secure enough to not move or bounce. Many times I will use a free self-sealing UPS/USPS/FEDEX whatever bubble envelope inside the USPS box to seal up the knife - they are free, why not? I keep some Amazon packing material, bubbles, air cushions, etc... Really the only thing I invest in is good quality decent mil clear packing tape which is relatively cheap.

I have also had many packages arrive from far away lands like AUS and Croatia in flimsy bubble envelopes that were amazing to me... amazing that they arrived with the item safely inside.

Wait. Free packing supplies? Free tape? Can you explain? I've mailed hundreds of priority packages and have not heard about this.

BTW, I tape the hell out of the box. It would be obvious theft if anything ever didn't show up in the box.

I had one of those Holosun red dots delivered yesterday and it was in a plastic box but inside a huge flimsy single layer bubble envelope. Even those can be made pretty tough. This shipper rolled it up in the bubble envelope and surrounded it with tape, slapped on the shipping label. It was probably minimal postage and sealed tight as a drum. It is all about the tape IMHO.

Packing supplies-priority box, shipping labels, and using priority envelopes as fill. They have priority tape at the counter that you can use.

I prefer to pack at home, and only use the box and shipping labels.

I knew about the other stuff but not the tape. My wife had a roll of it once. I'd prefer to use my own because it was a lot thicker.

What's up with labels? I use standard 8.5x11 paper printed from USPS or PAYPAL. Actually did have to buy paper recently because I ran out.

I was on USPS and ordered some bubble envelopes - free ninety-nine shipped free. The labels I would use in my printer are expensive there, better to use my paper and tape over them.

Yes I can.

Whenever you ship priority, boxes and tape are included in the flat rates. The boxes are usually found on the priority kiosk and the tape is behind the counter, just ask an employee.

You may also take home boxes as well, as many as you'd like within reason. If I remember right, you can also have supplies sent to you from USPS's website for free as well, though I haven't done this personally.

When I ship something small, like a Spyder/Benchmade/ZT, I will use one of the priority wax paper envelopes to wrap around the box, tape it secure, and it will usually be thick enough to where it will no longer move around the small priority boxes. If it's still an issue, I'll take some of the monthly literature you'll find in the pamphlet holders strewn about the post office, ball one or two up, and use that as some additional cushion/packing.

The only issue I've encountered is that the priority tape is colored and can not be used to adhere a printed packing slip to your box because of this. My post office used to let me use their clear tape same as they would the priority but they've been "cracking down." Despite the priority tape being the same exact tape, just with the addition of their brand, which I would think costs them more...Due to this, I'll bring my own clear tape just for the label.

It really makes using priority a no brainer. I used to ship standard ground or whatever they call the baseline shipping and between the boxes, packing, and tape, and the time it took to acquire these things it doesn't make sense to send it any other way. Plus, it's faster.

It really is. Everyone at my post office knows me as the "tape guy" and I take that as a compliment. I've received $1000 knives in little more than a box and some peanuts. Uninsured. Some people have steel between their legs, that's for sure. Or maybe just a bit too much disposable income.
