I need to sell a few of my Busse collection to pay for school and food. I am wondering how to price stuff. I thought about going to ebay and selling them because that seems to be a better way of doing it and I would probably get more money for them. It seems like right now is a bad time to sell anything because everyone bought too many knives for Christmas. I have a Bm-e(Pricing edited out to keep in line with this forums philosophy. Mike) only about six weeks old that wasn't really used much and then the BA-3 w/ ssn (Pricing edited out to keep in line with this forums philosophy. Mike) that I sent to Cliff Stamp which he reprofiled and reviewed. The coating is removed from the blade portion revealing grinding marks but it still must be worth something.
If you can suggest anything to me I would apprecaite it very much. Thanks!

I don't know if you should try ebay. Rant mode on. I used it last week with a no reserve auction(my mistake) for my straight handle badger attack. It sold for $280. I thought I would get at least $350 for it. I should have tried to sell it on the forum. I have the worst luck selling knives on ebay. Long time ago I sold 2 gerber BMFs with sawteeth and 1 LMF with sawteeth. The BMFs went for about $150, two months later they were selling for $250-$300:mad:. I put the LMF up after I saw one with sawteeth go for $200, I got $100:rolleyes:. I think I am going to stick with the forum when it comes to knives. Rant mode off.

So you're the guy who sold it for 280! Ouch! if you use ebay, always have a minimum that you will take (reserve price), or put it on bladeforums, knife forums and usual suspects, it should probably sell between the three, if price right.

Lukers,

Good question.

Either the For Sale forums or Ebay would be a good place to advertise. I have had luck with both.

I see that you are a Basic member, so you may find that the Bladeforums Sale forums are not an option.

As was said, be sure to put a reserve price so no one steals your items.

Good luck.
Mike

I figure everything evens out eventually. Like the straight handle Busse Battle Mistress on ebay with a buy it know of $275 which I snagged a year ago:D. Win some, lose some:)

Thanks for the advice everyone. It seems like the Bladeforums forsale forum gets higher prices for stuff than the knife forums for sale forum does. It would probably be worth buying a membership here because it would probably pay for itself.
TMG,
Will ebay force you to follow through selling it if you get a ridiculously horrible final bid? I would say screw it and if they want my knife they can come get it.

If I could trade this Bm for a slightly used Sebenza with leather inlays, and then resell the Sebie, would that be worth it? What about trading the BM for a bunch of cheaper knives and then selling those off?
Thanks
Luke

Lukers, from my point of view, worth the paper it is printed on... the people like myself who trade on the forums are doing it mostly for fun, rather than profit. If you really need the cash just selling a knife may not cut the proverbial mustard. I sell and trade for fun, I have both made and lost money on both sales and trades, but at the end of the day it is more fun than working!

Best of luck whatever you do.

Ditto on the trading for hobby thing. I get a little bit of a charge when I do a three way deal and make ten bucks. It sort of helps me forget the twenty dollars I lost on the deal immediately preceeding that one.:(

With that said, the truth is that Ive made some new efriends along the way and have met some of the nicest people through horse trading knives.

I actually enjoy trading more than selling. I`ve made a few friends along the way, which is a definate plus.

John
