Went to a gunshow this weekend and one of the knife vendors was selling Hibben triple set throwers for $100 used? He said the company was out of business and prices had shot up? I have that set and his throwing hatchet... Are they really worth that much or was this a case of crazy gunshow madness...

Do a search on Ebay and see if you find a similar set, I found a bunch of "Hibben Triple Set Throwers" NIB for $20.00 -$40.00.

United Cutlery has gone out of business, but I think there's still plenty of stock around, plus I'm sure some other company will continue importing the Hibben knives again ( if there's a market ).

I seldom find any good deals at Gun Shows, I went to a Gun and Knife Show two weeks ago, the prices were ridiculous. Only one vendor had quality customs and high end production knives. But I wouldn't ask for prices because they were not already marked and I feel the vendors are "size'n you up" when they don't have tags on their merchandise. The rest were selling junk knives and old traditional's for top dollar.

The Hibben throwers were designed by Gil Hibben but made by United Cutlery. United Cutlery filed bankruptcy and closed down in December 2006. Dealers bought much of the inventory. The remaining UC assetts and trademarks were bought by Buk K (the knife catalog company). I have been told that Bud K intends to continue the UC line of products and the United Cutery name but I'm sure it will take months to get thing in production again.

Bud K did not get the licensed products as part of the deal (Hibben, Kit Rae, Lord of the Rings, Rambo, etc). The license holders for each of those lines will negotiate their own deals which may, or may not, be with Bud K.

So, to answer your question, the United Cutlery Hibben knives are not being manufactured at this time. I would be very surprised if another company didn't pick up the product line but no deal has been made yet. I am sure there are a lot of the Hibben throwers out there in dealer inventories and I would think that you can find better deals.

Yeah... I didn't really believe the hype, but thought it was interesting. Thanks for the info
