Knife Quality Control

If there are obvious cosmetic issues, what else is messed up? I know there are a lot of knives bought and never used. But, if you do use it, is the heat treat also bad?

Off centered grind is more than just cosmetic issue. And if they ground it so badly, had 0 regards about fit and finish, there's also a chance they did a shoddy heat treatment too.

I bought a 562 full ti knife, wasnt too happy with it; the holes for the overtravel stop clip screw and rear screws were all offcenter. especially the over travel hole.the screw was tighter on one side more open on the other. It made the hole look like a quarter moon.thats how the other screw holes were. not sure if it was a defect but even though i got it for 200 i couldnt deal w it so i sold it. that was my 1st and last 562..

That's bad. Unfortunately, you have to learn the hard way which companies to buy from and which to avoid. As others have said, I've received perfect knives from Cold Steel, Tangram, Kizer, Mora, ESEE, Victorinox and Kabar which cost much less than your knife. I have two factory 2nds from Survive Knives, one of which cost less than yours, and I cannot for the life of me find a single issue.

I've been burned by companies and refuse to buy from them. If I can buy an $8 Tractor Supply SAK special or a $27 Tangram and receive a perfect knife, there is zero excuse for a crappy $160 blade to leave a factory.

Everyone can make mistakes. The important questions are how often and will they make it right.

For instance, I have a few of those Tangram knives. Overall, they've been fantastic for the price. Fit and finish, cutting geometry, and action have all been very good. The Acuto 440 has decent edge retention and good corrosion resistance. The Santa Fe in particular can compete with some knives costing two or even three times as much. Given the price, Tangram knives became my default gift knife for special occasions.

Well, I always inspect a gift before I give it. In doing so, I caught one with a bad detent. It was a real wet noodle. I had bought it directly from Kizer's online store (via a large international commerce site). So I contacted them there. They asked me to take a quick video of the problem with my phone and gave me a place to upload it. Within a day or two, I got a full refund with no need to return the knife and a coupon code for a small discount on my next purchase.

Here is another pic to give reference to the grind.

Send it back. If it annoys you enough to post about it multiple times, it will always annoy no matter how hard you try to like it. At $160 it should be ground better than that.
