Knife quality of Warren Osborne & Owen Wood?

Both are outstanding. I am excited to announce that Owen Wood has agreed to demonstrate at my 2009 Big Sky Country ABS hammer in. I discussed it with him in NY and he was immediately on board. He is such a nice person and I can't wait to have him here at my house where I can pick his brain for four days!

Before that though Tim Hancock, Larry Fuegen, and Harvey Dean will be here to teach at this summers Big Sky Country Hammer In. How lucky am I?!! You better make plans to attend.

I have always admired Owen Wood's knives, but never owned any.

I have 3 customs by Warren Osborne. One was a commissioned piece, and Warren came through perfectly. Very nice guy, perfect gentleman, and, of course, perfect knife.

I'm probably one of the biggest Warren fans on the planet. Last count I have 17. Several are engraved, and I always have at least 1 knife "in the pipeline" from Warren. You just cannot go wrong there. Personally, I think the value far outstrips many makers in the the so-called "top tier" and yes I own at least one knife from each of them. Although I like Owen Wood's work, he is, well overpriced for what you get. I've handled many of Owen's knives and they are very nice, but not worth 2 Osbornes, and that is close to what you pay. Service from Warren is impeccable, I bought a previously "loved" engraved auto from another collector and it was not firing 2/10 times. He fixed the knife and had it back in 3 days. He asked me if I was a lefty, and when I said "Yes, how'd you know?" He replied simply, "That was the only way that knife didn't work." Apparently, when it was engraved, a bit of metal caught on the oppposite side of the trapdoor...which only was in play when a Southpaw opened it' "upside down". 'Nuff said.

Well, thanks to everyone.

After much thinking, I decided to purchase this one, from a fancy folder collector:

I was quite taken by the design. Apprently, Warren doesn't make it anymore.

I haven't received it yet, but it should come in a few days...

Joss, I really liked that knife. Most unusual build, and expected fit and finish. Really an eye opener.

Congrats!

Very nice, sort of a "Gentleman's Policemate". I haven't seen that one before, and I've seen most of them. I assume that it is his modified "toplock" with a button release. Best wishes and admire it in good health.

I sent Warren Osborne an inquiry about this knife. This is what he tells me:

This is a one of a kind Sybex. This knife is the original knife that the Benchmade 940 was designed from.

The blade is a modified reverse tanto out of ATS 34 I believe. Scales are of Mother of Pearl. It features my patented top lock with a button release.

Enjoy your knife , its a rare one.

Fun!

I have had the great privilege of doing a couple of collaborations with Warren. He made the knives and I did the handle decorations. When working on another makers knives, all details and flaws become obvious, because a great deal of time is spent looking at the knife under high magnification. Not only are Warrens knives flawless, but also extremely strong. Hand filing puts a surprising amount of stress on the knife frame, and can easily throw the locking mechanism out of whack. Warrens knives survived my abuse without any problems.
There is no doubt that Warren is one of the great knifemakers, and I admire both his work and his ethics.

Here, in a beautiful liner-lock that Owen Wood made for me with Amayak Stepanyan
who carved and engraved the steel handle, you can see everything Coop mentioned
as typical of his knife art...

All the best,

That is amazing,
what do his Customs general run and dois he still take custom orders?

You just resurrected a 6+ year old thread.

Owen Wood takes commissions and they are expensive....5 minutes of searching on the interwebs would reveal the cost averages.
