Knife Quiz

I found the handle question kind of strange. I do prefer an oval "puukko" style handle but his answer makes it seem like everything else is wrong.

The last one that bothers me was the insistance that stainless won't probduce a good spark, I have sparked many fires with the back of a spyderco, Mabey others are better but this works very well for me.

Did you use a firesteel(ferrocerium rod)? Or did you use an actual flint stone. I've never seen anyone get a good spark from a flint stone using stainless steel, one the other hand, anything can be used on a firesteel(ferro rod), including glass.

thanks for the quiz, that was fun. I got a 16, but two of them were because I miss-read the question. ::Homer voice:: Doh!

16 here, too. There were a couple of questions that I disagree with a bit, like the handle shape question (to each his own!) and the 'thumbing the back' question. A thumb on the spine gives me more control and lets me choke up higher. Let's all send a letter of complaint! ;)

I lost interest when they decided to chose my handle for me. up till then I got them all.

If I want oppinion I'll ask here.

Only got a 13. I disagree with some of the questions, but a few I missed honestly, too.

Nice quiz! Got 18 out of 20. The two wrong ones I disagree with. I place my thumb on the spine and i don't smash the point of my knife in a tree.

17 - looks like most people including myself aren't going to cut using the tip and baton-ing the pommel of their knife and they're also going to use their thumb on the spine for better control. I also disagree with their estimation of cutting the femoral artery - it's at the surface only where the leg meets the rest of the body. It's buried underneath quite a lot of muscle in the thigh itself. At any rate, in the wilderness you shouldn't be cutting in the direction of your body, period. A cut is a cut and subject to infection.

Interesting, 18-20. But that the whole thumb on the side of the handle and driving my knife into a tree is what got me:confused:. Damn thing :D

18

but I've got no problem driving my knife point into a tree. Why not? As long as you do it straight, it should be the strongest direction.

Okay, that test is BS... It's nothing but his personal preference for most of those damn questions.

i.e. oval handle, no gut-hook, drop-point, high-carbon, 4” blade, Scandinavian grind, no finger-guards… well pretty much the whole goddamn thing.

And although I agree on what type of knife he finds the "best" (other than the grind), it is nothing more than our personal preference.
