I just got my new kershaw knockout and whn i open it it rattles if i shake it. Is this normal? this is my first kershaw assisted knife so idk. When its closed it doesnt do it only when its opened its coming from the non locking side of the handle.

Yeah it's normal it's just the torsion bar rattling around when the knife is deployed. I think the fix for that was to grease it up.

It makes it feel cheap.. in my mind anyway, a brand new knife rattling. Is it because its a metal handle and its under that little steel plate?

The torsion bar is that spring under your knife that makes it an assisted opener, when its deployed the tension is released so the torsion bar is free to rattle around like that. It doesn't affect anything!

Alright, im just not used to having a knife make noises, i never had a kershaw assist though.

Its an easy fix if you know how to take it apart.. Overtime the grease dries up or what not and this happens..

most speedsafe equiped knives will make noise at some point. All you have to do is dissasemble and put a little bit of lithium grease into the pocket. All of my speedsafe's have developed that at some point. It's a simple fix and what I would consider normal maintenance, although on a new knife it can be a bit of a dissapointment.

That and i dont have a bit that fits the screw... a t6 is too small a t7 is too big.. nice.

Quite honestly this is unacceptable.. The screws came pre-stripped, the grease is dried out, it was mediocre sharp at best. Im disappointed i really am.. i think this is going to get sent back.

Sounds like you are sorely disappointed, I would just send it back to Kershaw, as they have a great customer service reputation. What do you mean by "The screws came pre-stripped,"? Were they pre stripped for you, so you would not have to strip them yourself? Also the torx bit is a #6. Perhaps your bit is a little off tolerance.

Where did you buy it?... I'm almost certain the screws weren't stripped at Kershaw..

sounds like a bad example, at this point I would recommend sending it back to the retail outlet or to kershaw themselves.

I mean i think i got f***ed tbh. Got it from amazon and i think they sent me someones bs return that ripped it apart and messed it up so they returned it and amazon flipped it. Now idk if its just better to return it to them or send it to kai.

was the knife sealed? (sticker in tact) if not i would put in for a refund from amazon, especially if it was a 3rd party seller.

if the knife was new from Kershaw, then i suggest emailing them your problem. i recently had a problem with a new cryo i bought off amazon, long story short sent it in and they offered to replace it with another knife of same value that i may like more and i am happy with the outcome.

I'd return to Amazon and buy it from a supporting vendor like BladeHQ or Kershaw Guy..

I hear so many complaints about knives from Amazon, I don't understand why people continue to buy through them. Prices be damned, I am buying from a supporting vendor.

first of all examine the blade - cutting edge and finish (any srathes?)
if all ok (if not - you'd better contact seller) - examine for any bladeplay . If you have any serious play - send it to KAI. If no - just ask them to send you screws for your knife (FREE!) and reassemble it with new screws. add grease on torsion. thats all? :)
btw, mine 0302is rattles to, but i'm to lazy to reassemble it. 0302 rattles from time to time, once per year i suppose, maybe even more often)) it makes no any effect on it's work.

I've gotten two Knockouts from Amazon, they were all fine. One of them rattled, the one I use currently (the other was a gift). I've said it before, but I haven't had an instance when I bought new stock from Amazon and actually gotten a used piece. Of course, I'd sooner buy from Dave, and any ZT I care to buy I certainly do, but he doesn't stock everything and I won't ask him to do my non-knife holiday shopping for me either. Well, at least not until I've been over to his place for dinner. /creepy

All that said, I've also often heard people say their screws came stripped, but not once have I ever actually run into a Kershaw with stripped screws. I've owned about...56 at last count, and if you have the right tools then one would find that the screws are often just fine. A more likely issue is that they strip out when you don't use the right bit, and considering you say your T6 is too small and your T7 is too big, you likely have the incorrect (and possibly poor quality) tools. The screw sizes vary. Most Kershaws indeed have the T6 clip/body screws and T8 pivot screw, but my orange Skyline takes a T10. So the the body screws on my 0550. It's just how it goes sometimes, and I never blame poor tools on the screws.

Just request a replacement, they'll send one out without needed the return right away. Then get some proper tools and a bit of grease. The rattle doesn't even imply that the grease is dried out. The Knockout hasn't been in production long enough for the grease on the very first one to actually have dried out. Perhaps they didn't put enough in there to fully encase the torsion bar.

Calm down, return the knife, and try again. You didn't "get f***ed".

So i called amazon and the customer service rep was kind of.. idk how to explain it, brain dead maybe? Anyways i ended up talking to who was supposed to be a supervisor and he sent me a email with a prepaid return label so i can mail it back to them. Next time ill go a different route not amazon. So now on monday ill just drop it off and them we wait.

Just because you think something, doesn't make it true. Add some grease to the space where the torsion bar sits Mr. Farms.
