Knife recomendations for a cop

Something that you might want to consider if the knife will be somewhere where it could possibly be grabbed by a bad guy. Choose something that has a blade which is not opened too easily. Even if it is just a strong detent keeping the blade shut, it could give you a little extra time to react before the bad guy would be able get it open. You want to make sure that you can get it open quick though.

Just a thought.

I have carried
Leatherman Wave on duty belt accompanied by 2 of the following in pockets

I've seen some carrying a clipped folder in the back pocket. IMO...big NO NO!
Keeping it in the front of your waistband dramatically increases your defense against knife grabs.

Also, I know a guy who was carrying his back-up in a FOBUS ankle holster. He was fighting a crackhead. During the struggle, the gun was kicked and popped out onto the pavement.

Another I know was dealing with a situation when his ASP was removed from his holder and the unknown person ran away with it.

I also remember a case where a suspect took an officer's ASP and beat him over the head with it. The officer had to shoot the suspect.

My point, make sure whatever knife you get and where ever you carry it....it is secure. Not only from accidental loss (expensive) but also from suspect grab attempts.

Why not get a rust proof Endura Wave?;)

I belief a good Multitool is a necessity in police work. Most police organisations use flexcuffs nowadays. It's very dangerous to cut flexcuffs with a pointed knife. You have to wiggle the knife in between two wrists and then try to cut upwards. I have seen people get cut in their wrists this way. A good multitool is better to cut these flexcuffs in a safe way . It's also important to have a non stab knife with you.
I have used my knife to cut loose people caught in an accident ( hanging upside down) and have used my knife to cut the rope free on suicide victims who hanged themselve.
I know PC is not always the best way, but i have seen people getting fired for carrying a ASP expandable batton two years ago, but now using a collapsable batton is mandatory!

Your job is not worth the so called benefit of carrying a non commisioned tool.

You will probably get away with it, but if you ever use it, you will get in a lot of trouble with the rats of I.A.:barf:

Strong side....Buck Tarani/Strider $45.00
Weakside, a Ka-Bar TDI....$20.00 Attached to the liner belt under the duty belt.
Attached to my left vest strap a Hideway Serrated Straight....$159.00

I have also purchased training knives of the same models that I carry and I train with them during PPCT. Last weak was weapon retention and my training partnet was really surprised when he had the red handled Ka-Bar at his throat when he was grabbing my gun.

Been on the a patrol grunt for about 8yrs.

Becareful about carring expensive autos....my dumb ass lost a MT Scarab($450.00), hence the cheaper knives now. Goodluck and be safe.
