I am looking for an all around knife for heavy duty use. Here are some of the knife that i have narrows down as my primary knife.

SOG creed, Bk7

And also I considering the the Buck 102BKS Woodsman or the Buck 105 BKS PAthfinder as a secondary knife for more precise task and skinning. If anyone can give me a better suggestion for a secondary or primary knife please tell me.

Well I don't consider myself a "tactical combat" expert, but I like to think of myself as an outdoorsman. Id give Esee, Entrek, Becker, and Tops a look. You'll see one or a few of these mentioned multiple times in this thread. Im not a fan of all of Tops' designs (they can be kinda tacticool) but they do have some great knives out there. Im personally looking at picking up their Scandi Trekker. My favorite fixed blade is by far my Esee Izula 2. Even though its small, its all the blade I need. As for a back up blade, all of the listed companies have smaller knives to choose from.

I would choose the Becker over the SOG. For knives of that general type a lot of people really like the RAT knives.

Check out the DPx HEST line of folders and fixed blades. I own both and they are very good.

I often see questions like this. The truth is, the best "combat" knife is the one you have on you when your primary means of defense fail. Any knife is capable of being used in defense. The majority of this knives duty will be outdoor work so you should really focus on that.

I am going to recommend the exact same knife I always do in this situation: EnZo Trapper

Amazing fit and finish, awesome heat treat, good steel selections, extremely competitive price, and a fantastically utilitarian blade profile.

Did the original post get edited to remove references to "tactical" or "combat"? I see people responding to those concepts, but the OP asking about a survival blade.

Yes, it used to ask for a Tactical Combat and Survival knife.

The BK-7 fills your description of a heavy duty, all around knife; it can take a lickin' and keep on tickin'.
Go to the Becker Knife & Tool thread and check out what others have used the BK-7 to do.

I'd get a short machete if you need something knife like. A hatchet/tomahawk would also be practical. Or a kukri.

Price range? You can't go wrong with a Becker. Good value vs $. I'd take the Becker over the SOG if I had to choose based on the two you gave.

I have an Ontario Ranger RBS6 as my main camp knife and I love it. Others to look at :Becker bk2 bk10, ESEE 6, or Ontario Ranger RBS6.

Falkniven A1s are really nice but close to $200.

EDIT: I can't help with a skinning knife. I'm not a hunter/skinner.

I would recommend against the SOG, regardless of model. I've seen more than one tip break off in what I would call "moderate" use.

I've never used the EnZo Trapper, but it rarely gets anything but rave reviews.

You can't go wrong with the Fallkniven F1. Although the blade profile is a little thick IMHO, you cannot destroy that knife and it holds a surprisingly good edge.

If money is not a factor, then find a good custom/handmade knife that fits your purpose.

It all boils down to what you consider "heavy duty use"... a chopper is great for gathering firewood, but try cleaning and skinning small game with one. On the other hand, smaller blades along the lines of EnZo, F1, and ESEE/RAT will perform anything necessary with a little extra effort and some ingenuity.

Just my thoughts on the subject... it's your decision. I hope you enjoy it, whatever you decide.

I am thinking bk7 over the creed here, for that price range it's tough to beat you could also go with the Ontario Kukri which is like 50 dollars on some web sites.

Becker and ESEE are great. If want to spend more, check out the Busse TGLB, and if you like Busse but don't want to spend so much, Swamp Rat Knives and Scrapyard knives are the bargain brothers of Busse.

The BK7 is a great knife. It'll do just about anything a reasonable man would expect to do with it.
The condor varan is a bit less expensive and also a nice large blade. Can't imagine hurting a varan too easily.
Easily modded too. Both of those I own and would purchase again if lost or I decided to start abusing them to the point of failure.
I generally prefer a shorter blade, as I find it more useful for general purpose use and it's just easier to have with me.
The bk16 is my newest knife and is quickly becoming favorite. It may not be "hard use" by some standard, but it will do anything that a blade of it's design and size would be expected to do.

I would suggest taking a look at the Grayman line of folders and fixed. He makes just one heckuva good knife snd they are bullet proof. Wonderful people to deal with and a no question warrantee.

I've a couple Dua's and one fixed blade and I trust either one in a bad situation if I were to be stuck in the woods or whatever.

Myself, I'm pretty sure if it comes down to using my knife for self defense, it's really gonna have to be a last ditch effort and I'd probably end up with the knife poking out of me somewhere. Lol.

But seriously, check out Grayman. Tough tools!
