for a one tool option i would say this...a HI balance knife kukri..16" OAL 5160 Hc steel diff heat treated, 5/16" thick blade 35 oz weight. it will handle ALL your needs.

There are so many great knives out there that would fit your requirements. Of the two you suggest, I'd take the Becker BK-7. However, if you want heavy duty, then take a look at the recently discontinued Scrapyard 711. It weighs in at exactly the same as the BK-7 but the balance is totally different, with the 711 a lot more front heavy and suited for chopping. If you are quick, there's one on the Exchange right now.

I have the same kuk, different kauda and handle inlays. It's out of Nepal but exactly the size/shape. I would highly recommend one to the OP as well if your main goal is a chopper.

Wonder if you'd mind telling me what your blade stamp says; I can't tell from the pic. Mine says something like " I • C • E• ." I've never been able to find out the significance of it or if it's a makers mark.

My scabbard is similar, goat over wood, but with different ornamentation of course. And I'm missing the bottom brass embellishment.

I'm considering replacing the chakmak and carda with a Ka-Bar Acheron/BK-11orIzula rig soon. Bring it up to date.

I'm also looking for a new ready-made scabbard if anyone knows of a supplier.

OP, if you go with a kukri try to stay with the real ones--there ara a lot of designs out there that stretch it, literally and figuratively. "Kukri" has become a very big word.

Thats pretty blasted thick for such a "short" knife. 3/16-1/5 in should be more than enough assuming you aren't planning on prying any doors open with it
